Emergency Baking Tip
Who doesn't know the following scenario? You get a phone call and a friend or your mom says; "Hi honey, I will be there by in fifteen minutes for a cup of coffee."
Okay. You cherish that, but you don't have any muffins or cake to offer. What do you do?
Don't worry!
Take two coffee cups, and do the following:
Put the following in each cup:
- One Egg

- 2 Tbsp milk or cream

- 2 Tbsp farina

- 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- a few chocolate drops (optional)

- 1 Tbsp of sugar

- A pinch of salt

- 1 Tbsp sunflower oil
Then stir the mixture well with a fork or a whisk. Put it in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes.

Enjoy!

We used to do this in college... take the waffle batter in the mornings, put it in a mug, add some extras, and microwave for a yummy "muggin."
what in the world is farina?
ohhhh... flour, right?
I tried making something similar to the recipe above but it just didn't work out for me. I didn't like the texture and felt it didn't have much flavor. Even if someone calls me to tell me they will be here in 15, I would still bake muffins. They won't be ready when the guest arrives, but they definitely will be served hot. But of course, all my friends are known be late, so it's never just 15 minutes. I always have plenty of time
Its okay to microwave eggs like that? Just wondering.. I cant cook at all or know nothing about cooking.. Haha
NICENICENICE. Thanks for the recipe! But what's farina?
Farina is flour in portuguese :)
Cakes baked in the microwave always have a funny texture and a weird flavor. I usually just keep a box of chocolate muffin mix in my cabinets just in case. You can have them mixed and baked in less than 15 minutes, and they're so much better.
sketchy... I don't know if I'd try that or not... Dx
@bbanmen420@xanga - Yep, it's totally ok!
I've done this many times. I add a lot more chocolate. I put in two or three tablespoons of cocoa powder, and it gives it a nice, rich flavor. I also don't put in sunflower oil, and I put in more sugar or Splenda. It ends up really tasty.
Ummm... if someone wants to show up with 15 minutes notice, I generally assume that my company is enough for them.
Sounds tasty! I'm not much of a cook though so probably wouldn't have some of those things on hand, sadly.
soooo Farina is not flour....
Its like a cream of wheat just thicker. Its a german thing.... Grits is made from corn... oatmeal from oats.... and farina from wheat... you add a ton of sugar to it and you can eat it on toast. My mom used to make it all the time.
@WaitingToShrug@xanga - right? lol.
this is pretty neat though. sometimes i'm in the mood for something like this, but don't feel like going through the hassle of baking an entire cake!
If they are coming over for a surprise visit, let them bring the snack!
