For most of my life I have always preferred my pizza with some form of greens on the top. After all that makes it healthier right?
Growing up in an Italian family near New Haven, CT (considered by some as the pizza capital of the U.S.) I was constantly surrounded by great thin crust pizza. I almost always made my own salad, placing it on top of take out or homemade pizza. My family often looked at me like I was crazy, what was I doing to our delicious dinner that was already perfect?
I love the contrast in temperature and texture. The acidic bite from the dressing or lemon juice that cuts through any fat. I love when any of the dough absorbs residual dressing.....I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
To this day I still prefer salad on pizza, specifically arugula lightly dressed with olive oil, salt & pepper, and lemon juice. Yes, I've tried salad pizza at restaurants before the Greek style too, it's just not the same. I often make it at home using whole wheat crust and whatever fresh ingredients I have on hand.

Whole wheat pizza crust cooking on my pizza stone with olive oil and fresh tomatoes.

Finished product topped with grated Pecorino Romano cheese, oil cured olives, and dressed arugula.
Or in a pinch, my favorite takeout from Luzzo's and their Arugola Pizza with Tomato sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto, shaved parm, and arugula.
What are your favorite ways to eat pizza? With or without cheese? With dressing?

oh god they all look so good D:
Someone dropped a salad on your pizza.
That last pic actually looks really yummy. I may give this a try!
I've tried something like that before and it's actually pretty good.
I don't know if you would find this amusing or not, but when I clicked to read the entire entry, an ad for Papa John's loaded on the side. Which is okay with me; Papa John's is my favorite of the national pizza chains.
One of my favorite deals from Papa John's is when they offer a large pizza with up to five toppings free. Now, my pizza always has to have mushrooms, but after that, the other four will vary. They have included bacon, Roma tomatoes, grilled chicken, beef, pepperoni, and extra cheese. No pepperoncinis, please, but could you please substitute an extra cup of the garlic sauce?
I wouldn't mind trying spinach on my pizza, but it would have to go on before it went in the oven. I really don't like salad dressing, so I would probably say no to that.
The way you are describing this makes me want to give it a try! (& I'm not much of a salad eater) But I usually tend to like my pizza with lots of cheese & pepperoni! <3 Mmmmm....
I can see salad being good on pizza, actually. I love ranch dressing with pizza, and greens, well...can't beat those! I am so glad I'm sitting here eating my pizza sammich. If I hadn't been, I'd have been on the phone ordering pizza.
mmm, I want.
I'm the basic red sauce and mozzarella kind pizza person. I like things like pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions on my pizza. I wouldn't mind having greens on my pizza, but it would have to be thin type, Margherita style pizza. I'm not too crazy about the chain pizzas, with all their "gimicks" of extra buttery crust, stuffed crust, white sauces, etc. I like cheese on the pizza, but probably no dressing unless it was a cheese-less pizza.
Well, the way you write about it makes it sound appetizing. But I think I will stick with my cheese and regular toppings!.
Gotta love a good fresh salad on the side though. Just don't want it on my pizza crust. ;)
that sounds sooo good!
At the pizzeria I used to work out we make a pizza like this. I like a teeeensy bit of salad (w/ dressing) on my pizza, but not to the extent that we made it for our customers!
Pepperoni and eggplant <3
Fig, Goat Cheese and Arugula = LOVE.
