  • Dulse the Healthy Salt?

Is there truly such a thing as healthy salt? It is no secret that there is an overuse of high sodium products, which are linked to health problems such as high blood pressure.   However, sodium is still an essential mineral our bodies require and plays very important roles in healing and cleansing.

All salt originates from the sea. Just because a product is labeled as sea salt does not mean it’s a whole food as it still can be refined. Whole natural salt is slightly grey and may even have pinkish, bluish or other mineral hues.

Dulse is an edible seaweed grown in the North Atlantic or Northwest Pacific on larger seaweeds and rocks. It is low in sodium in comparison to salt, but rich in vitamins and minerals. It has a natural salty taste and is strong in flavor, making it an excellent salt substitute for vegetables, meats and sauces.  You can even use it in shaker form on popcorn!

Have you tried dulse before? What other salt substitutes have you tried?
