Pregnancy Diet: Big Macs?
A woman named Suzanne Franklin suffered from extremely severe allergies and could not eat eggs, dairy, fruits and vegetables. After she got pregnant she needed the appropriate nutrients to nourish her growing child and could not take antihistamines because they could have negative affects on her baby. Her conclusion to this predicament was to eat Big Macs everyday during her pregnancy (without the lettuce and cheese) because she knew they were safe for her.
She "forced down burger after burger each day" because she wanted her baby to keep growing. Sounds pretty extreme eh? I'm sure that this is a pretty extreme diet and there must have been other foods that she could eat like other breads and meats too.
Or a burger BESIDES the big mac??? On the bright side, her baby was born healthy at 10lb 2 oz.What do you think of this?

I love big macs but they're so bad =/ Why didn't she consult a doctor on what she should be eating...?
i'm surprised the baby didn't come out much bigger
I can just imagine what Morgan Spurlock will have to say about this.
As long as the baby came out healthy and with no complications.
Why is fast food so fucking demonized?
Her logic is so messed up lol.
Nice, all those chemicals...
I'm glad her baby is healthy but I have a hard time believing that she is allergic to all that and still managed to eat Big Macs, even without the cheese and lettuce. What about the pickles and onions? I do believe there are dairy products in the sauce. The other commenter is right, she should have consulted a doctor. Or how about this crazy idea...buy food and prepare it yourself? Yes, I said it.
um ya know there are other food besides a big mac to eat and healthy ones that dont involve dairy fruits or veggies. obviously it seems like she didnt bother trying to find an alternative
If any of you commenters had been through a pregnancy with bad morning sickness, aversions or allergies, then you wouldn't be so judgmental.
Wake up! Everything that Americans eat that comes from a package is full of preservatives, corn syrup, artificial flavor enhancers and colors, and so on. Chances are, she tried to find other things that worked. When eating anything at all is difficult, Doctors will tell you to eat whatever works, as long as you are eating.Pregnant women should never let others make them feel guilty for eating what they can keep down or what will give their babies what they need to grow.@the_greatest_pip@xanga - Thats pretty much what I was thinking. lol.
Yeah... you remove the lettuce, cheese, and sauce, and it's not really a Big Mac anymore. So how bad could it be? I think she just liked big macs.
yummmmy
@babybug329@xanga - exactly. She could have fixed her own food. It would have been much healthier than Big Macs.
and the fact that she couldn't take antihistamines is BS. The only allergy medications my doctor said were off limits were the steroid based medications. Granted I had to reduce the amount of antihistamine I took, I could still take them. It sounds like she just wanted an excuse to eat Crapdonalds all the time to me.
Meh, honestly, it's hard to judge not being in her situation. Personally, I have a hell of a time eating myself, I throw EVERYTHING up, and the things I CAN eat occasionally without throwing up, make no sense. So I know from experience that having health issues when it comes to food can make it impossible to eat healthy sometimes... and I can't blame her for going with something she KNOWS didn't cause her problems. Logically you can say, there must have been something else, but the body can act the strangest ways in these situations, and really, there may not have been any other option she could think of that wouldn't have meant certain death for the child. So it's easy to judge when you can eat whatever the hell you'd like and you are just fine, but then try being in a situation where health problems drastically limit your choices of what you can eat and then you'll realize that what are the "best" choices for everyone else, may not be options for you AT ALL. And it's harder to deal with than you might realize.
The baby lived, and that is what should matter here, because I know people with serious food allergies and stuff who have not ever been able to conceive and carry a healthy baby to term because there was literally nothing they could come up with to work around their allergies and sensitivities and STILL eat enough for their child to develop properly, there was simply no way for them, so considering not everyone in this woman's situation CAN carry a child to term at all might help some of you realize that regardless of what you think of her plan, it's an absolute miracle either way.
@PervyPenguin@xanga - because it is full of chemicals, pesticides, hormones, toxins, and other artificial crap that is horrible for you. ever notice how sad and raggety most old people look? i know 90 year olds in colorado that ski daily .. diet is everything.
@JesusWillEatYourFace@xanga - If you eat fast food and don't burn it off, well no crap you're gonna get fat. Exercise is the most important factor to me, as long as you burn it off you could pretty much eat whatever.
@JesusWillEatYourFace@xanga - Just gonna note, that so is basically everything else most people eat, unless you eat entirely organic, and most people who just claim to eat "healthy" DON'T go completely organic, so those things ARE still in the foods they're eating, even if they're "healthier" foods, only legit organic foods don't have all that crap in it. So if you're saying that is the major difference, you should also be condemning anyone who doesn't eat entirely organic. I mean, even fruits and vegetables are grown with pesticides and crap. It's not just fast food, not at all, it's basically all food that isn't organically grown or raised or produced... hardly just fast food, that'd be the majority of ALL our foods these days, if you're being honest about it.
If it weren't for the circumstances limiting her diet, I definitely would be shaking my head in disbelief. But when you have that many allergies, I assume it isn't the easiest thing to do. I wonder if the baby got enough nutrients with such a limited diet (eating a food that is probably an incredible amount of empty calories), but at least it made sure that both the mother and baby were given an adequate amount of calories so that neither ran into complications. Far from ideal, but it's not horrific either. Now if she had done this while being allergic to the Big Mac itself (rather than almost everything else under the sun) and had been shooting up on antihistamines in order to have a MacDonalds binge, THAT would be something to get all in a huff about. It would also be humorous, in a sad, morbid way.
WOW! I am going on this diet tonight!
AWWW, lucky!!!!!!!!
@AGreatPerhaps@xanga - yes that's exactly what i mean. go raw! but im not condemning people for making whatever choices they wanna make, but let's all get aware ! (many already are which is awesome!) @PervyPenguin@xanga - and i wasn't talking about fat at all. personally i believe all shapes of healthy bodies are beautiful. but they should be beautiful on the inside as well as the outside so that we can feel good and live the life we where meant to live (full of energy and vitality and smiles!! )
oh who cares?
@JesusWillEatYourFace@xanga - Logically, I wouldn't even assume raw means those things aren't there. Fruits and vegetables grown with pesticides or genetically modified, etc. STILL contain those things despite being part of a raw diet. So from what you said, you're technically not even making any sense now. You're telling people to "go raw" yet saying the consumption of things that certain foods can contain is wrong... but these ARE NOT things that are eliminated through a /raw/ diet. Raw and completely organic maybe, but to make it simpler, you could probably eliminate these things with JUST an organic diet, which doesn't technically even mean you eat well, but organic foods SPECIFICALLY eliminate what you have talked about being bad, while raw foods do not necessarily mean a person is not consuming those things. So you're not being very clear. You said "that's exactly while you mean" following that statement with one that was not only NOT what I said, but also one that doesn't fit with the overall point YOU were originally making, nor what I said in response. So... you have thoroughly confused me...
@AGreatPerhaps@xanga - no, i didn't SAY organic, but i said "i completely agree" in regards to your comment which meant, yes i agree with everything you said. (you said "organic" remember?) anyways. i will clarify. my personal opinion is that a lifestyle filled with 100% organic foods that is somewhere between 70-80 % raw fits my needs the best. i do not eat meat and try to stay away from as many dairy products as possible .. because even if they are organic eating those things just doesn't make sense to me because we are the only mammal that drinks a mother's milk after infancy, and eating meat requires slaughtering an animal. (even if it is a grass-fed, 'humanely-killed' organic meat animal.) but i don't know all the answers, im trying to figure out what works best for me, and my future family. God did not speak to me one day and tell me 'don't eat meat - it's wrong' so i dont know if its right or wrong, but i believe that we have been provided with a plethora of plants to choose from for food (and in such abundance!) that it just doesn't make sense to me to eat meat. or to fill our food with chemicals and pesticides and additives and colorings and genetically modify it (which i believe 100% of the wheat in this country is GMO) .... so yeah, 'go raw!'
Big macs are so yummy. but you know whats even better? Baconators !!
Yummmm.
Well anyways, as long as her baby was born healthy, and everyones okay.. thats all that matters !
