Does Dreaming About Devouring Sweets Help You Stop Craving Them?

I don't usually dream. No, let me correct that, I never dream. Or maybe I do but I never, ever remember themBut I woke up this morning having dreamed perhaps the best and most delicious dream in my entire life: sitting down in a cozy cafe with the sun shining in, and a pile of fresh, ripe berry tarts, soft chiffon cakes, steaming warm blueberry muffins, and colorful macarons that melted in my mouth (I actually don't even like macarons, but for some reason, I was in love with them in my dream), and chocolates of all different shapes.
I don't think I ever had a more realistic dream. I can still remember the feeling of sugar in my mouth and I woke up feeling full although I slept with an empty stomach.
But what was more bizarre than the fact that I even had a dream is the fact that my previous cravings for sweets suddenly all went away(for a few days at least)... What's going on?I have been off sweets and pastries for the past week. Not specifically to lose weight, but I happen to have a severe sweet tooth that has been affecting my health lately, so I decided to change my diet and cut off from desserts and sweets for the next month. (cross my fingers I will make it until then!)
I'm definitely not experiencing any shaking hands or crazy side effects from this, but I guess my subconscious couldn't handle the sudden deprivation of sugar in my system anymore, and thus made me indulge in more sweets than I can ever imagine while I was sleeping!
It was interesting, but does this usually happen? It's never happened to me before, nor have I ever heard of things like this happening to others...
So my question is this: does dreaming about overindulging in something you really desire but are restrained from, satisfy your cravings? Does it help you quit that thing?...
It was such a strange experience...I hope some people with a background in psychology are reading this right now! It will be really interesting to hear what you think. Thanks for reading!

Nope. Actually, it has the adverse effect.
New research out by Carnegie Mellon University found that actually imagining the continued consumption of a particular food cut down on the actual consumption of that food. These amazing findings go against most traditional thinking when it comes to controling food consumption and could lead to major changes in dietary interventions.
@plumbing - omg that's so cool! thank you for that info
Wow, that sounds really interesting! I've never had a food dream before :x
i ate a crap ton of cookies and icecream for the past few days. plus more than 4 meals. no bueno.
since you slept with an empty stomach, your brain developed this vivid food dream to satisfy your cravings and make you full during your dream to fulfill your subconscious desires, at least temporarily(I'm not an expert, I just made that up
) I haven't had a food dream because I don't really think about food. I have had lucid dreams
I sometimes wake up after a nap completely fucking starving. It's not an "oh, lunch time! Better make something soon", it's an "OMFG IF I DON'T EAT RIGHT NOW I WILL MURDER LITTLE BABIES." It's really strange.
sorry to say, normally it only makes you crave them more. over exposure is the only thing i've ever found to work. i cant even think about eating chocolate toffee or carmel since i spent the last three weeks in nonstop production.
i've had them before, and they actually did help - surprisingly.
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - haha you're right! it's probably all this blogging about food that's getting to me!
@ncxcorexkid@xanga - "OMFG IF I DON'T EAT RIGHT NOW I WILL MURDER LITTLE BABIES." lol
I get that too when I spend an entire day with no time to eat, but never when I get up! that must be quite inconvenient sometimes, no? I hate having to prepare myself a meal when I am starving--i imagine that it'd be much more worse if you are sleepy on top of that!
