Tim Horton's New Smoothies
I recently noticed that Tim Hortons has introduced a new line of smoothies in an attempt to add some healthier items to their menu.
This new smoothie contains a full serving of fruit and is lower in calories than some of their other offerings. Since they seemed quite cheap I decided to try one out. I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and as I watched them make it, I wasn't sure what I was expecting.
They poured some fruit juice into a cup and then mixed it with chunks of ice. It tasted sort of strange but sweet and I think they might have given me the wrong flavour since I couldn't taste any banana in it at all!

I think there are much better places for smoothies despite the fact that these may be one of the cheaper options out there. Maybe it would have tasted better if I chose the option of adding yogurt for another 70 cents? I'll probably just stick to their ice cappuccinos for now!
Where do you usually get your smoothies from?

i make my own(:
I also make my own! A half scoop of soy protein + a handful of blueberries+ a banana (or half if it's a big banana) + a bit of yogurt + a splash of milk (accordingly) + a tablespoon of honey = amazingly delicious, nutritious, and filling smoothie. =)
@syedanoor@xanga - that's how I make it too! Although I've never used the soy protein. Although most smoothie recipes call for ice, I never put it in because i never have it. The yogurt/milk base is more filling and has more calcium anyway!
some people hate the Tims smoothies but I have friends that love it - personally I'll stick with ice caps :)
I find it kind of crazy that Tim Horton is popping up around NYC. I noticed that on my trip out there a month ago. I go to BC fairly often and they are a staple up there.
I tried my friend's strawberry banana one, and I found it too sweet, it just wasn't working for me.. :(
I heard the yogurt really does make it soooo much better.
One morning when I was getting my coffee in a hurry before catching the bus for class, they were handing out little shot glasses filled with them. I didn't try it since it was freezing out, but the lady said she prefers them with yogurt however they wouldn't let her add the yogurt for the samples. She also said they add so little of the yogurt that it shouldn't cost a whole 70 cents.I did notice while I was standing in line for a few minutes that everyone kept grabbing the strawberry banana and she kept having to make more of it.I think making your own would be more cost efficient. Also, it's hard to tell how much sugar or other things are in smoothies made in shops.
I love making my own, but since my boyfriend is an avid Tim Hortons goer... I decide to give the smoothies a try as well. He got the Banana one, while I got the mixed fruit. His smelled so much like banana that I was afraid to taste it, because I absolutely hate it! We go through the drive thru, so I didn't get the chance to see what they were doing to make the smoothie. The first time, I got it without the yogurt... which was a mistake. It tasted more like juice put into some ice, which is what it is from what you explained in this post. When I got it with yogurt, I was much more satisfied, although I ordered a medium, and half way through felt a little ill from it being so heavy.
I will be sticking to making my own smoothies from now on, unless we are doing road trips or something of the sort and I have a craving. :)
Robeks! They're amazing! Real fruit and fresh-squeezed juice, none of that concentrate junk. I'm actually trying to get a job there and have a 2nd interview in a couple days!
And I make my own a lot too. I get a frozen fruit mix with strawberries, mangoes, pineapple, and peaches from Sam's club and usually use that, frozen blueberries, and sometimes fresh pineapple or mango for the fruit. And then I get this amazing mango juice from World Market that is simply mango and pear that I use for the juice. And sometimes I add milk and/or whey protein powder. Since the fruit is frozen it doesn't need ice either.
freshly squeezed
@syedanoor@xanga - That's how I make mine too! They taste so much better than anything I've ever bought. I also like to throw a big handful of spinach in to sneak some more veggies into my diet.
They're smoothies are horrid.
I really like the mixed berry with no yogurt,a nd it'll be a good option during the summer when I feel like having something slushy but not soda based.
They're nasty and my sister tried the yogurt. They only put enough to fill half the smoothie. I'll just stick with my coffee/iced coffee.
Aha, they're so bad for you. It's a fruit base, and they mix it with a simple syrup mixture, and simple syrup is just sugar and water.
My hubby bought one of these for me, saying how much he liked it. I agree with some of the other posters, though. It was essentially fruit juice in slush form. And not even that good of fruit juice. Even though I felt bad about it, I couldn't finish mine (thankfully he wasn't around to see it). Haven't tried it with yogurt, though.
My sister had them. I don't know. I haven't had them yet. I like makin my own. o3o I like the noses the blender makes. xD
I think Tim Hortons smoothies are amazing. Usually I'd just make my own at home, but when there's not enough fruit around or any yogurt, I usually now just go over to Tims. I think it's worth the 4.19$ I pay.
@Insane_kiwi@xanga - I used to work at a Tims that was combined with a coldstone creamery. Tim's smoothies are just fruit juice with a simple syrup base. They are ridiculously sweet and not in my opinion "real fruit" smoothies. Coldstone, on the other hand, used frozen fruit. Whole strawberries, bananas (fresh), blueberries, and raspberries and put about a cup of ice in and blended. That's a REAL FRUIT SMOOTHIE. Granted, they cost more but are delicious and so worth the price.
I work at a Tim Horton's and cannot drink them. It says a full serving of fruit but its only fruit concentrate in the container and the best part? They mix it with simple syrup (sugar and water). Sounds really healthy. I read one of the "nutrition charts" that my work had out (it looked like someone typed it up on word..) and it said that if you get yogurt in it it may reach over 700 calories.. hmm so why does the commercial say its good for you and low in fat?
My smoothie was horrible- way too sweet.
It's all about Booster Juice, baby!
Orange Julious is the way to go. I love Timmys (duh, i'm canadian! they're everywhere!) But for smoothies.. Definitely Orange Julius, especially their Strawberry Delight =]
Orange Julious smoothies are the best! Pina Coloda is the best flavor! Now I want one.
