  • Illegal Additives in China's Pork Supply

You may recall our article earlier this month about a plastic rice scare in China.

Well, yet another food scare has hit the country. Instead of fake rice, this time it's illegal additives in pork. It seems like one company in particular is solely responsible for the tainted meat.

Apparently, any pork product marketed under the Shuanghui Group's Shineway brand has the potential to be harmful towards humans. The company's pork is made from pigs that were being fed clenbuterol, an additive that helps to increase the rate at which the pigs' muscles build and also helps to burn fat. As a result, it produces leaner pork.

Despite the ideal result of leaner pork, it doesn't change the fact that clenbuterol is an illegal substance when it comes to tampering with food.

When ingested by a human, it can lead to heart palpitations, profuse sweating, and dizziness.

Do you think additives in general should be added to our food products?
