Our Dogfish Head Brewery Beer Dinner
Derek ran into this a week before Valentine’s Day and it seemed way too awesome to pass up! I called almost immediately and booked us a reservation. We hadn’t decided on anything for Valentine’s Day yet so I told him this is where I was taking us, even though it would be a week late. The Dogfish Head Brewery Beer Dinner held on February 22nd at 7pm at The Half King in New York City.
Derek and I have decided to alternate years when it comes to who takes out who on Valentine’s Day. Last year Derek treated me to a luxurious evening at Mesa Grill, so this year was my turn! We were both so excited to go!!!
We arrived 20 minutes early and to our surprise, we were seated. They were expecting every seat to be filled so we were informed that we would be sitting with another group of 2. How fun that would be, we thought. Our table-mates never showed up though, so we ended up getting the table to ourselves. We couldn’t help but think about how much better the night would’ve been if Kerri and Scott were there with us!
Elizabeth Lyons from Dogfish Head was also there to introduce and talk about each beer that was being served.
We started off the night with My Antonia, American Double Imperial Pilsner.
This was the first beer that they brewed in NYC. They are still working on the brew pub up on the roof deck of Eataly, but this is where My Antonia was brewed and we were the first ones to try it out! We were able to talk to Elizabeth for a few minutes and we couldn’t help, but express our excitement for the brew pub that we have been waiting for. She says they are aiming for the end of March now and that it’s been pushed back so much due to the actual construction. There is a lot that has to be built! This was my favorite beer of the night! The First Course: Spicy Thai Style Meatballs with Oelek honey dipping sauce
Paired With: ’08 Burton Baton
Second Course: Venison Meatball Minestrone, Mixed veggies, beans, tomatoes and elbow pasta.
Paired With: Namaste
Third Course: Baby Arugala & Maytag Bleu Cheese Salad with Poached Pear, Sliced Walnuts and a fresh lemon thyme vinaigrette.
Paired With: 60 minute IPA served through the Randall (*Note: Not sure if this was actually passed through the Randall, Elizabeth had mentioned to us that she was unsure if they got it to successfully pass through. It tasted fantastic either way.)
Fourth Course: Rabbit Pot Pie, Home made pie crust with carrots, celery, pearl onions, green peas and mushrooms

Paired With: Pangaea
Fifth Course: Espresso Kahlua Creme Brulee
Paired With: ’05 Raison D’Extra
This whole experience was AMAZING. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was comfortable and fun and the the food and beer could not have been any better. My favorite dish of the night was the dessert; The Espresso Kahlua Creme Brulee. It was sooooo freakin good! I could not get enough of it, I’ve never had such an amazing combinations of flavors in my mouth!I was stuffed, but I could’ve eaten another one.
I hope they have another awesome beer dinner at this place soon because it kicked ass!

Man that's a lot of alcohol for one meal... cool.
