5 Foods That Look Gross But Are Actually Tasty
I've never really been a picky eater. But I'll admit, I am a bit judgmental of food's appearance. If it looks like it may have been excreted in some way, I'm somewhat reluctant to try it. However, I've often been surprised at how delicious some nasty-looking foods are. Here's some that have surprised me.
1. Refried beans: I used to be scared to eat this at Mexican restaurants because I thought it looked like cat barf. Now as an adult, I still think it looks like cat barf, but I've gotten over it. I love mixing it in with the rice they give you at Mexican places, and I frequently use it on homemade quesadillas.
2. Hummus: Similar to refried beans, hummus has the appearance of something unappetizing, perhaps baby food. I've learned to love with with warm pita bread.
3. Pulled pork: Although it looks like someone already chewed the meat and spit it back out, pulled pork is quite delicious on sandwiches.
4. Thousand Island dressing: The pinkish tint to this dressing kind of throws me off. Nevertheless, it's pretty good, especially with French fries or on reubens. Speaking of which...
5. Corned beef hash: My roommate introduced this to me this past year. It's kind of weird that it comes in a can, but you can also make it from scratch. Yes, it looks a bit like vomit, but once you get past the appearance it's delicious.
What other foods have a deceiving outward appearance?

I love all those things, but especially corned beef hash. But I would never eat the canned version by itself. I stick it in a casserole with eggs and day-old bread and cheese, and I've got a delicious breakfast bake. Mmm.
A the risk of revealing my ignorance, what exactly is corned beef hash?
Meh, I'm not a fan of refried beans. Though, it's not because of the appearance, it's the texture.
i thought the food would be actually gross/uncommon stuff. like balut or pig blood or something.
nothing on this list is bad in comparison..
I've never really considered those foods gross. I actually like my food to look messy and sloppy.
I loooove hummus :D
nah those don't look gross to me. you know those cheese balls? those look gross to me, all chunky full of weird things in it like nuts and stuff almost looks like chunky barf to me, hahaha.
Thousand Island dressing is not my cup of tea, but the rest of the list is nice.
I love pulled pork. My Mummy like to make some for me.
Hummus IS frigging gross. SO gross. Don't get the fad. GROSS.
Hummus is amazing. And now, thanks to You Don't Mess With the Zohan, Ma Sheba Ba plays in my head every time I eat it, which is kinda cool.
I've eaten way too many exotic, foreign foods for any of those to seem the least "gross" to me. I actually can't think of any foods I explicitly would not eat based on appearance alone.
I don't particularly care for any salad dressing, and that inlcudes Thousand Island. If I get a salad, I'm going to get it without any dressing. Why ruin the taste of good veggies? I actually like all the other stuff on your list.
All of these are delicious!
I don't like hummus OR thousand island dressing, just because they taste awful. But you'd be missing out if you didn't eat food just because of the way it looked.
1 and 2, yes!
this website is very good, you can go and see it

just had re-fried beans and a duck buritto
mmmm
Nothing with melted cheese looks gross on it.
Ooooh I love re-fried BLACK beans! theyre delicious! You should try them :D
love hummus!
@lindatraviesa@xanga - Don't think I've ever had those! Whenever I order a burrito, I always go for black beans, so I'd probably like the refried version.
I want refried beans now
@TooComplicated2Explain@xanga - It's amazing. I don't even know how to describe it. Basically bits of potato and corned beef all mixed together. SO GOOD.
Salmon belly look gross but it's absolutely scrumptious... same goes for Tuna Neck & Eel!
I'm a vegetarian and some kinds of meat look disgusting to me, yet people seem to like that stuff so much to the point where they can't live without it. And fish really stink! I wonder how anyone can like that stuff.
