15 Weirdest Aphrodisiacs from Around the World
Update: I didn't realize the video for the Deer Wine automatically started; I have changed the order of the list so that it won't annoy viewers every time they come to the site. Sorry!
In honor of Valentine's Day, I shared a list of 15 Edible Aphrodisiacs. It's only fair that I now share the 15 WEIRDEST edible aphrodisiacs. This list really made me wonder what people wouldn't do to get into the mood--then again, people do/did go through extremes to cure a hangover.
1. Dog/Wolf Meat: Dog meat is considered an aphrodisiac in the Philippines and many Asian countries. I suppose the Asians would agree that dogs really are man's best friend?
2. Bat and Ball Soup: Bat and ball soup is composed of the genitals of a male bull and is believed in Filipino cultures to be an aphrodisiac.
3. Cobra: In the Philippines, the cobra meat is considered to be an aphrodisiac and is hunted for the Chinese market. The meat is usually cooked in adobo style. Many in Asia believe in its aphrodisiac tendencies and some even consume the blood! The tradition of consuming a Cobra is a Cantonese tradition dating back to the Han dynasty (206 B.C.–A.D. 220).
4. Deer Penis Wine--This rice wine is made with herbs and is popular with Chinese, Japanese and Korean men.
5. Fugu: The Fugu (aka Blowfish) is a popular aphrodisiac in Japan. It is also incredibly deadly as its poison can be a thousand times deadlier than cyanide.
6. Turtle Egg: Turtle eggs are aphrodisiacs according to Mexican folkore. As you will find for many of the items in the list below, the belief of being an aphrodisiac has led to the decline in turtle population.
7. Spanish Fly: The Spanish fly might be the closest aphrodisiac with a legitimate explanation. It contains cantharidin, a toxic substance, that causes persistent abnormal erections in men by irritating the urethra. It's so effective it's given to farm animals to encourage them to mate!
8. Sea Cucumber: The sea cucumber may be considered to be an aphrodisiac due to stiffening and squirting fluid when disturbed. It is retailed in China as an aphrodisiac for men and allegedly tastes like pork fat!9. Duck Egg: In the Phillipines and Southeast Asia a duck egg containing a fetus 20 days into gestation is considered an aphrodisiac and is readily available in the country as a street side snack.
10.Skink (Lizard) Flesh: This North African delicacy is believed to make the one who consumes it irresistible. In ancient Greece it was believed to be an aphrodisiac when the feet and muzzle were prepared in wine.12. Leaf Cutter Ants: In South America leaf cutter ants have been considered to be an aphrodisiac since pre-Colombian cultures. How are they prepared? The wings and legs of the queens are separated, soaked in salt water and roasted. It is still traditional to gift the ants to newlyweds.
13. Tiger Penis: In China, Taiwan and South Korea the tiger genitals are believed to increase male stamina. It is so popular that it has led to the near extinction of the tiger.
14. Rhino Horn: Ground rhino horn is used in Africa, China and Northern India for it's alleged powers. Unfortunately, poaching the rhino for horns has become a problem of late due to the diminishing numbers in Africa.
15. Birds Nest Soup: This soup is LITERALLY made from a birds nest, specifically that of an Asian swift. It has been dubbed as the "caviar of the East" and is a delicacy due to the challenging nature of acquiring the nests. It is believed to be an Aphrodisiac in many Asian nations.Would you try any of these? What do you find the weirdest aphrodisiac to be?

@PervyPenguin@xanga - LOL Which one?
please edit your blog before posting..it's sloppy to leave so many grammar errors that are so blatantly obvious.
I wish I hadn't looked at this. I feel sick now.
*barfs*

I don't think I'll be trying any of these.
I feel like these should be illegal...... Hah.
So it could be said that the Asian and African countries, in pursuit of the boner, are responsible for many animals joining the endangered species lists?
Can we just send some KY their way and let the poor Tigers and Rhinos live in peace?
Bwaaahhh :(
Duck eggs aka BALOT in our language, are delicious! And it's not 20 days. Usually it's 16 or 18. Better pick the 16 days.
1, 2, 7, 9 and 15 but warning for the curious of 1.
Dogs can smell other dogs' stink and may cause hostility and incessant barking, A good substitute is Goat Meat...best of which stewed/braised in tomato sauce, simmered with carrots and potatoes
i really enjoy the birds nest soup though, really sweet =) obviously it's been cleaned and filtered for cleanliness.
Asians are fucking crazy.
@TheFashionableEconomist@xanga - Nice! I suppose it just sounds strange, but tastes delicious!
@incoherenceY3K@xanga - Funny you mention goat meat. My family makes it a lot, but I find a lot of people are turned off by it and think it's strange. I guess it goes to show how "normal cuisine" really varies by where you come from!
@UnpredictableIdentity@xanga - Delicious, eh? How does the taste differ from the traditional chicken egg?
@explosive@xanga - I won't either! LOL
@JinXd_Icicle@xanga - That's one way to look at it!
@LaughOutLoudLauren@xanga - Some should and are! Especially the ones that involve killing endangered animals :-/
