Foods That Soothe A Sore Throat
I've complained about it enough in my posts that, by now, you should know that I hate winter. It's not that I just dislike the cold or the slippery walks to class—it's also my annual tradition of getting a sore throat. I guarantee that I will have one shortly (if I don't, that would be awesome).
So what should you do when you get a sore throat? Eating the right foods (and avoiding the wrong ones) will help lessen your pain and put you on a path to a speedier recovery.
Eat/Drink:
Soup- Let it cool down a bit so it doesn't scald your throat.
Mushy warm cereal- It's less harsh than crunchy cold cereal.
Milkshakes/smoothie- Obviously soothing and delicious :)
Applesauce- Whole apples (or any raw fruit) are difficult to swallow. Try mashed-up fruit to get your fix.
Avoid:
Crunchy snack foods- Popcorn, chips and cookies are harsh on your throat. If you want a cookie, try dipping it in milk first to soften it.
Fried foods- Again, crispy fried foods are hard to swallow and scratch your throat.
Acidic fruit juices- I learned this the hard way. Trust me, don't drink grapefruit juice (or any citrus juice) if you have a sore throat!
What do you eat or drink when you have a sore throat?

honey water or Chinese herbal tea :]
Old home remedy -- equal amounts honey, lemon juice, and bourbon.
I actually drink lemon juice when I have a soar throat. It washes away any mucus thats stuck in there, and if I catch the soar throat fast enough, it'll be gone the next day.
Honey and cinnamon, on a spoon!
Salty foods, and I gargle Apple Cider Vinegar (it's proven to be as affective as antibiotics for strep).
I got rid of strep throat with vinegar while I was on a rainy trip in New York. It was so bad that I had white bumpy puss pockets all the way up on my throat and even on my tongue! I couldn't get to a doctor, so I took my mom's advice - she's a pharmacist - THANK GOD!
@ecstatic_tranquility@xanga - I'll have to try that! Hopefully I won't be getting strep for awhile though.
I've heard honey in your tea helps, or just honey by itself.
Ah! This came just in time!
White sage tea with honey. =] Mmmm.
Tea with lemon and honey!
I heard that gargling warm salt water really helps, but I've never been brave enough to do that :\
I'm gonna keep the smoothie/applesauce idea in mind once allergy season rolls around :)
I just recovered from a sore throat. The only thing I wanted the whole time was juice. (Canned peaches felt really good too.)
well acidic fruits usually contain high amounts of vitamin C
so though it may not feel great going down, it may help fight the infection from within
chop equal amounts of fresh lemon and ginger put it in a jar
Then fill the jar with honey and leave for about a year
the liquid that results from the jar will be potent and powerful
its amazingly soothing and clears my stuffy nose in a sip
put about two spoonfuls percup and fill with hot water,
tastes delicious and is the best remedy I know
HALLS. The End.
I like to make a ginger tea with a little bit of lemon and honey. The ginger and honey are soothing for your throat, the lemon has vitamin C. It's the easiest thing to make. Just peel a ginger root, chop it into a few 1"x1" pieces, boil the pieces, and use the ginger infused water as the tea. If you want the ginger to be stronger, just let the pieces soak longer. You can add the lemon and honey to your tastes.
Jello =]
Pickles!
Ice cream.
You know how you put ice on a swollen area?
That's why.

Sunny Delight! And fruit punch feels really good on it too!!!!
Pudding also taste good as well as Popsicles
Soup is always my remedy.
Jamba juice worked for me. Its all fruits and vitamins, and its cold. :]
