Top 5 Ingredients I Would (Probably) Die Without
We all have our favorites when it comes to food. But when it comes to flavor enhancers, there are 5 ingredients that I use for almost everything.
1) Garlic
Let's face it, if the whole vampire and garlic myth is true then I have nothing to worry about. Garlic is practically the blood in my veins. Whether it's fresh, powdered, minced, whole, or what have you, it's incorporated into my breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
2) Salt and Pepper
I know these are two separate ingredients, but for me the two go hand in hand - you can't have one without the other. You think those eggs on your plate this morning were delicious? Put some salt and pepper on them and think again (along with some garlic powder for that matter)!
3) Butter
I'm not talking any of this silly margarine business. Give me fatty delicious sticks of BUTTER! It helps create such a smooth, creamy texture for everything. Even when a recipe calls for oil I still manage to stick a little butter in there. Am I a fatty at heart for it? Maybe.
4) Rosemary
If you don't find that rosemary flavor popping up on your taste buds too often then you have some changes to make concerning how you flavor your food. It's such a delicious, earthy, ingredient - fresh or dried! I put it in anything from a simple grilled cheese to a meatloaf dinner.
5) Shallots
There's something about those little onion look-a-likes that I can't get enough of (despite the fact that they make me cry like some horrific tragedy has happened). I prefer them in thin slices if they are fresh (i.e. in a salad, on a sandwich) and a bit thicker if cooked/sauteed. Their advantage? They won't leave you with half the bad breath an onion would (which is great for me, considering I already have garlic breath to worry about).
What ingredients do you find constantly making an appearance in your food?

Garlic is a big one for me as well. I prefer olive oil 10x to butter though. Actually, besides the butter I use all of these a lot as well.
garlic, salt and pepper, POULTRY SEASONING, corn, and chicken. If any of those were barred, I don't know what I'd do.
If you subbed Italian seasoning for rosemary, I'd be 5/5 with you hah. Another thing I use a lot is nutmeg. I love adding little pinches of it to random things.
Rice - not in everything, of course, but as a staple, it's a pretty big staple for me :x
My top 10 list ('cause it's hard to just choose 5!) would be cinnamon, thyme, rosemary, parsley, basil, garlic, onions, green onions, curry powder, salt/pepper.
Oyster mushroom and rice. Really, I'd cry if I were never able to eat any sort of mushroom again, but oyster mushrooms are my favorite and it's ridiculous how many dishes I can incorporate it into.
Haha, I don't like any of those things (Weird, I know)
Garlic, onions and ginger :)
1) Garlic 2) Salt and pepper 3) cilantro 4) parsley 5) butter
But if I had to chose only one to survive, garlic is it.
I season nearly everything with garlic and garlic and onion powder. ^.^
oh! curry powder is a good one too..that'd probably make it to my top ten
Pepper
Butter, salt, and pepper are a must for me.. I can not live without them.. Plus I cook food with butter instead of oil because oil gives me acne.
Garlic is a huge one for me!
Also: Curry powder.
Oil... hm.. I guess that would have to be olive oil. And CHEESE! XD;; I'm kind of ashamed to say. I guess salt too, though I'm no salt fanatic. That makes 5? But I feel I am missing something. Onions and I really like cilantro. =p
Oh don't be so dramatic.
garlic, onions, ginger, but cinnamon and cumin are going to be added soon
I love garlic and ginger! Curry powder is also one that I love adding into my food.
And recently I just stop using any other oil except sesame oil and olive oil. I love these 2!I'm pretty much the same as yours, but I tend to use onions more often than shallots, because we live in the country and finding shallots is a HUGE challenge... not to mention expensive when we do find them! I'm thinking of growing my own once we move...
I disagree...salt and pepper don't have to go hand in hand. I rarely use salt, I find it unnecessary, but I love pepper! Also, I've never been big on the flavour of Rosemary. I'm sort of warming up to it now, but still can only take it in very small quantities.
My regular ingredients are garlic, onions of all types (depends on the dish), olive oil, fresh ground pepper (has more flavour when its freshly ground, than when its already ground and sitting in a shaker all the time) and various herbs, my favourite of which is probably basil.
this website is very good, you can go and see it===

I LOVE Garlic!
For me, garlic, basil/oregano, olive oil, pepper (black and red/chili), and onions.

I can't imagine eating garlic 3 times a day, every day. :/
