  • The Super Bowl Effect: On Pizza & Your Health

    It's GAME DAY!

While the Steelers and the Packers will be duking it out for the super bowl trophy, pizza franchises everywhere will be having their BEST sales day ever!

It has been reported that pizzerias have a 35% sales boost on Super Bowl Sunday--one of the biggest pizza-delivery days of the year. Papa John's is estimating to sell a million pizzas and in preparation, are stocking up on over 350,000 pounds of pepperoni and 2 million pounds of cheese. Domino's Pizza plans to deliver 1.2 million pizza's and Pizza Hut expects to sell 2 million. That's 4.2 million pizzas from just THREE franchises--imagine the total sales when including other franchises, privately owned pizzerias and supermarket purchased pizzas!

But careful what you eat: Studies have found that eating fatty foods can be dangerous for those with coronary disease since it leaves the blood vessels in an abnormal state for 3 to 5 hours post-consumption. A recent study found that witnessing an emotional sports loss can result in fatal heart attacks, especially when combined with other triggers including lack of sleep and overeating!

The Super Bowl is synonymous with overeating since Americans consumed 1.25 billion chicken wings (according to the National Chicken Council) and 30 million pounds of chips and pretzels (according to the Calorie Control Council).

Are you watching the Super Bowl Today? Will YOU be ordering Pizza?
