Yo Quiero Comida- El Paso Chile Quesadilla Maker
I gave my vegetarian sister this quesadilla maker for her birthday, and I have to admit, I didn't exactly have high hopes for it. I wasn't sure if it would be a good gift since I was a bit skeptical as to how the quesadillas would turn out. But I'm so glad I bought it! It's super easy to use, and it makes great tasting quesadillas. All you really do is put toppings— or rather, stuffings, on a tortilla. Then, after placing another tortilla on top, you're ready to press. A green light will appear, indicating that your quesadilla is done! It even slices your quesadilla into six individual slices, that is providing that you don't over-stuff it.
Speaking of which, that's the only thing I'd caution customers about. Don't over-stuff the quesadilla with too many ingredients as it might be more difficult and messy to press. I've found that the maker is actually very easy to clean, especially since it's equipped with a tray to collect crumbs. Also, buy larger tortillas to prevent ingredients from leaking out if you like lots of stuff in your quesadillas!
Overall, this gadget is a great little tool for making quick lunches and snacks. I usually spread some refried beans, salsa and cheese inside the tortillas before I press them together. I bought it at Target, but it's also available at other stores, like Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl's.
Do you have a favorite food gadget? What is it? Would you recommend it to others?

I guess it's not really a food gadget, but I love our Keurig! Pretty good coffee, lots of flavor options, perfect cup size. Gosh, i sound like a commercial! Way back in the day (aka college) I loved our George Foreman Grill, but I haven't used that thing since a year after we got married. But yeah, the Keurig!
you know what alton brown says about unitaskers.
I ♥ my George Foreman grill. Maybe it is a college thing...
How well does this work as compared to the George Foreman grill?
@kaos_calle@xanga - HA! I was about to say the same thing!
But my favorite kitchen gadget has to be my garlic peeler. I HATE peeling garlic, and it makes my life so much easier by just shoving the clove in there, rolling it around, and out pops a perfectly peeled clove or two of garlic. Genius!
@kaos_calle@xanga - Ahh, my thought exactly. Unitaskers make me shudder.
The messier my Mexican food, the better.
I love quesadillas.
I also love my Forman grill. It's just so useful.
I took my rice cooker I bought while living in Japan back with me to america. I think it was one of the smartest things I've ever done, to be perfectly honest, hahah. You can make rice porridge in it, probably dry curry (although I've never tried), I've made basmati rice in it with onion as well although the rice comes out a bit stickier when I make it in the cooker- as par for something that cooks japanese rice, but I actually prefer it that way. The cooking bowl is non-stick, so cleaning it takes three seconds, and you can prewash/soak the rice in the bowl as well. I paid maybe $60 for it in Yushima at Donki (for those who know the funhouse that is donkihote, especially in the yushima neighborhood of tokyo), and it still works marvelously after being beat up in the mail on the way over. Rice can sit in it for up to three days on the warm setting, also, amongst other things. It's a great piece of technology- my rice cooker is the gem of my kitchen, hahah!
@kaos_calle@xanga - I know! Please, no unitaskers in the kitchen...except for that garlic peeler @Emily mentioned. The garlic peeler worth the real estate that the gadget takes up in the kitchen.
I was given one of these quesadilla makers as a gift. Guess how many times I've used it. ONCE. Quesadillas made on the stove in my multi-purpose frying pan is a million times better. I think maybe my quesadilla needed a little something more than just cheese but the tortilla never got crispy on the outside, which is important to me. Also the tortilla got a weird plastic taste after being warmed up in the maker. I had even wiped it with a damp paper towel before using! Also it didn't cut the quesadilla, merely scored it. Maybe I got a dud...but it's ok, I like my trusty frying pan.
My favorite kitchen gadget would have to be the hand mixer. Does what the stand mixer does but less scraping and easier to clean. (Not to mention, much less heavy!) I use it to make all kinds of batter/dough for pancakes, cookies, cakes, etc. I love my hand mixer, it even has the sturdy whisk attachment beside whisk and basic hand mixer beaters.
I wish I could make a REAL quesadilla. I just put shredded cheese in between two tortillas and put it in the microwave.
Awesome! I have been wanting to try that out. Looks amazing! I also want a griller...one of those things you can make pressed sandwiches with. Sigh I want it all
What's next? A bologna sandwich maker?
Is it really so hard to make a quesadilla on a no stick pan/comal?
My boyfriend got this, but he's so lazy that he won't use it because he has to then clean it out when he's done. We may have used it 5 times in the 6 months after his birthday, and then we completely forgot about it. It's just easier to make it, stick it in the toaster oven and then cut it in half. Well, to him. I did like it, but I agree that it's impractical and just takes up space. I mean, unless you're making quesadillas every single day...
