It's the holiday season, and that means it's time to indulge in our favorite foods. With all of the bakery-visiting, going back home, and holiday parties, it's the season for comfort foods.
Comfort foods are those meals or snacks that bring back the best feelings of childhood and being in love. They might be insanely high in calories, but make you feel better whether you're homesick, celebrating a holiday, nursing a broken heart, or simply just feel like binging.
Here I've listed some of my top comfort foods:
Pasteles en Hoja: I'm not sure exactly how they're made, but they remind me of the holidays always. My grandmother makes them every Christmas or Thanksgiving, and always makes extra that I can freeze and store for a couple of months. They're amazing.

Fried Sweet Plantains: I like them thinly sliced with not too much grease, they make a great quick dinner, and when I lived in Maine they were the one thing I kept dreaming about. Seriously, New England-- start importing these!!!

Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes: I think this is a typical American comfort food. For 7 out of 8.5 months of my pregnancy I was craving the perfect version of this meal that I'd created in my mind-- crispy breading outside the chicken, moist, juicy meat inside, and lightly whipped potatoes with a thin coating of perfectly seasoned gravy, amazing.

Brownies with Vanilla Ice Cream: I like it when the brownies are piping-hot out of the oven. The ice cream just melts slowly on top and I'm not sure what it is about the hot chocolatiness of the brownie juxtaposed with the cool vanilla of the ice cream that gets me every time.

Meat and Cheese Lasagna: I love this, and it's safe to say that I've perfected making it (with 6 cheeses, no less). It's great any time of year, and is typically a non-kosher crowd-pleaser.

What are your comfort foods?

That lasagna looks so good! I make my own version of it too and I could live off of it and only that for the rest of my life!
I agree with the fried chicken and mashed potatos; bisquits and gravy, Jimmy John's pickles. I also love pies, muffins, etc. My biggest though is a comfort beverage, mocha with whipped cream (I buy it at my university and it always seems to motivate me, maybe cause of the caffeine--).
My comfort food in Japan was Japanese tsukemono, rice, and gyouza. I still have my moments where all I want is Japanese food.
That lasagna looks amazing!
My favourites would be lasagna, hot chocolate (I know not really a food, but in my opinion it's way better haha) and thai sweet chili potato chips. yeah, they're great.
That is one fine looking lasagna dish. I have a plainer recipe but still tastes pretty good. My comfort food is soup, usually chicken noodle and minestrone.
Macaroni and cheese, brownies, anything with chocolate, pizza.
My mom and I are trying to perfect our own homemade Mac and Cheese. We think we're almost there.
I love Mac and Cheese, mashed potatoes (that have bits of chunky potato running through it), chicken (just about any kind), a good burger, my Dad's pizza, and homemade chicken noodle soup.
Anything that's bad for me is comforting.
Empanadas w. beef and cheese. YUMMMM.
I agree with all of these except for pasteles. Whenever I tell a latino how much I loathe them, they give me crazy looks. xD
I like grilled cheeeeese, pizza, and french fries (with salt, pepper, and DRENCHED in ketchup).
food doesn't really comfort me. Shopping does
Wow, 6 cheeses in that lasagna! Impressive. My favorite comfort foods include macaroni and cheese, warm freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and crispy fried chicken. Oh, so bad...everything that tastes so good is sadly, bad for you. LOL
BREAD! any kind of warm bread that i can indulge in is comfort food.
Tomato Soup with a Peanut Butter Sandwich to dip in it... YUM.
My dad used to make this for me as a kid, and his parents were pretty poor, and they used to eat it a lot because it was cheap and easy. I'm almost 24 now and when I'm tired or not feeling well, I make some Tomato Soup (although these days it's homemade and or all organic) with some wheat bread and all Natural Peanut Butter... YUM YUM YUM.
Hooray for fried plantains!!
