Winter is probably my favorite season right after autumn. I love the snow, the warm clothing, and especially the seasonal foods. There are certain foods that just taste best when the wind is blowing and the temperature drops below freezing. Here are some of my favorites:
Hot Apple Cider: great in any season, really, but the contrast of the tart flavor of the apple cider, the warmth, and a touch of cinnamon inside makes me feel nostalgic.
Soups/Stews: I love a hearty soup or stew in the middle of a blizzard. It's filling, warm, and is
a great contrast to the long, frigid days.
Freshly Baked Cookies: the smell is intoxicating, and there is nothing quite as great as getting a warm chocolate-chip cookie with gooey, chocolaty insides to dip in a cool glass of milk.
Pizza: another food that's great in any season, but having it in the winter really makes the flavors pop, since it's not too hot to dig right in to a fresh New York slice.
Hot Cocoa: This is I guess a staple to anyone's winter favorites. I love it with marshmallows inside, as a kid I used to drink all of my cocoa first, then be left with the soggy, sweet marshmallows to chew on.
So delicious.
This is my top 5 list for foods to eat in the winter, what's your's?

I definatly agree with the hot apple cider. I also love pot roast in the winter, it's too hearty to eat year round and on a cold day meat and potatoes just feels like home.
pizza and hot chocolate!!!!
not together though...lol. :)
@XalwaysXchooseXdareX@xanga - i agree with the pot roast one, it kind of reminds me of christmas too
Winter warmers, barleywines, imperial stouts, tomato soup/grilled cheese, and vegetarian chili. =D
Toblerone chocolate, apple pie from scratch, 'thick' soups and stews, turkish tea (apple/cinnamon flavoured)
And all christmas related chocolates ofcourse
And a sip of champapne at new years eve
This post made me want soup.... =]
I love hot apple cider, cappuccinos, and chicken noodle soup! ooh and green tea!
Everything but the pizza. I also think of hot baked pie - like apple, cherry and pumpkin.
YES YES & YES!!
Definitely! Add hot tea to that list & I'm set. I've been meaning to bake cookies for the last few days...
1) Roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding and demi-glace gravy for dipping (and horseradish!)
2) Pasta with meat/tomato sauce -- it can be spaghettini, lasagna, rotini, sccobi-doos, etc, just as long as it's garlicky, tomato-ey and has fresh parmesan on top!
3) Baked ham, with mashed potatoes, kernel corn (with butter & salt!), with a salad of baby lettuces & Italian Vinaigrette
4) Hot Chocolate (what we call it, your hot cocoa)... I like mine with whipped cream on top.
5) Baked potato, with real butter, sea salt, sour cream & green onions. It HAS to be the good russet potatoes with the thicker skin (called "baker potatoes" here).
Great, now I'm hungry!
Fuuuck I love soup so much.
Hot chocolate.. what's the difference from hot chocolate and hot cocoa/
=] Good list!
Hmm.. Different flavored coffees, like pumpkin, snickerdoodle, gingerbread, etc. are on my list as well as baked goods. Winter is great for baking!!!
A nice hot toddy or a brandy does the trick very nicely
I agree with all of them except the first one on the list!
soup soup SOUP.
i will only have it in the winter.
I like a wonderful crock of French Onion Soup, Hot Chocolate, Steak Soup, Hot Apple Cider, and I recently discovered Chai Tea Lattes.
where's the seasonal coffee?!?!!?
Matzo ball soup. =D
I like them all except pizza -- I could have it any time of the year ;)
SAME! Minus the pizza. Substitute that for CHILI. :) Happy holidays.
Tomato soup and grilled cheese. :)
I'm going to go get some apple cider now!
I can't seem to put a number on it, but for winter, definitely foods/drinks served hot! Apple cider is yummy warmed with cinnamon stick for a slightly spicy kick. Soups and stews, with a crusty toasty piece of bread is always welcome. Fresh baked cookies and pizza is always a favorite, any time of the year. I would say comfort foods like lasagna, mac and cheese and other casserole type dishes would be my next choice. My hot chocolate has to be made with milk...water won't do.
