Gypped At Starbucks
So this morning, I went to Starbucks for my delicious white chocolate mocha toffee nut latte before class. I was thrilled because I had fifteen minutes to spare and I used it to wait on line to get my coffee. I usually try not to get coffee in the morning because my body is very sensitive to caffeine... but if you have an 8AM class, you're going to need to stay awake.
Half asleep and rather excited, I paid $5.05 for my morning picker-upper. I don't know about you, but I enjoy coffee in the morning every so often. What's great about this Starbucks is that I can go through a drive-thru and not have to leave the comfort of my car.
After a few minutes of receiving my coffee, I leave and run straight to class... early. My coffee is feeling slightly lighter than usual. I go and drink my latte... expecting to taste the delicious nectar from the green and white cup, but to my surprise, THIS COFFEE TASTED HORRIBLE. I was thoroughly upset. I am sitting in class now with my half-full latte. Here are all the things wrong with my coffee:
-I understand there are two shots of espresso in my latte, but that's all I could taste. I did not taste toffee nut or white mocha at all. You have to pay extra for syrup pumps.
-My latte was only HALF FULL. Where did the rest of the drink go?! There was no foam or whipped cream... and I saw little oil drops floating at the top of my coffee when I opened the lid.
-It was not hot. The coffee was moderately hot... I suppose they did it this way to make it drinkable, but I don't like it.
-The foam was apparently spooned into my coffee instead of poured in. I'm not enjoying this.
-The picture above is the actual cup of coffee I have in my hand right now, so you Xangans can see exactly what I'm talking about. With that being said, I'm very unsatisfied. If I am going to pay $5.00 for my coffee, I should be able to enjoy it and expect to taste something amazing. Starbucks never failed on serving me that way, but as of lately, these lattes have been made below the standard expectancy. A friend of mine works at a different Starbucks and he told me to go back and complain right after class. He explained to me that the franchise was "free pouring" the steamed milk into my espresso, so it wasn't mixing well. I wouldn't know because I never had the training to become a barista, but they apparently should not be doing that.
This is supposedly the "new way" to make the lattes. I get out of class in an hour and I'm not sure if that would be too long because they would think I just came to mess with them... but this is rather ridiculous. I want to last through my class... I don't want to get angry and want to throw my coffee against the wall. Luckily, I'm not one of those people who have issues in the morning where I'm a horrible person before I have my coffee (I'm sure you've seen those funny commercials).
Don't get me wrong... but Starbucks is losing their luster with me. This is actually the second time this has happened to me. I caught the mistake right away the first time, but since I rushed, I didn't catch the mistake. Starbucks better start shaping up and returning to their roots, or they will start losing customers, such as myself.
Have any of you ever had these experiences with Starbucks, or any other franchise? What did you do? What do you suggest I do? Should I go back and complain?

Yeah, I would have gone back and shown them your picture. The least they can do is nothing. And they should at least refund you for that drink.
I prefer independent coffee shops to Starbucks. They're about half the price and if you're nice they give you extra syrup for free and let you know about "secret" flavors. =P
The title of this post is redundant.
It's too late to complain now, but you should definitely say something if it happens again.
I would go back and complain, yeah. I've never gotten a half filled coffee...but I get an iced drink with extra caramel sauce at the bottom (Which they charge for) and then don't put in. Ugh.
Starbucks disappoints me time and time again. I prefer going to Peet's Coffee. They're much more delicious.
I am SO sorry that happened to you, by the way. I once got an earl gray latte from Starbucks, which is one of my favorite drinks there, and I wanted this for my violin lesson because it provided me with caffeine and was nice and hot. But when I took a sip, it tasted burnt. I don't even know how to describe it, but it was awful.
Go report! =/
COMPLAIN YOUR ASS OFF!
I hate starbucks...I hate most chains. Go and bitch on urbanspoon.com tooI dont' mind Starbucks, but I do have my issues with them. Most especially that they are far too expensive. I couldn't' believe what I paid today just for a simple cup of tea. If I paid over $5 for a coffee and it came out badly I might go back and complain if I caught it quickly. Perhaps if I didn't realize it for a while I wouldn't. It might just be that particular Starbucks that has sloppy baristas. Quality does seem to vary from store to store sometimes.
I'm surprised about the coffee not being hot. Normally Starbucks is so hot I burn myself if I try to drink it within 5 minutes of receiving the drink.
Go online and complain! You'll get a coupon for a free drink.
kinda sounds like they might have mixed up your drink with someone else's too, like someone who just ordered shots. the only 'free-pouring' they should be doing is for a cappucino, and only if someone didn't train them right [i work there too]. we have people come in every so often [no one's perfect] bc their last drink from earlier or yesterday or whatever just sucked, and we always make them a free drink, and we make sure it's extra right. someone just messed up. if it's anything like my store, tis the season to lose alot of employees and be loaded with newbies who don't really know how to do anything right yet. just go back and explain your drink wasn't right, but be nice to the baristas :) we hook people up and suggest yummy things if you're nice to us. ;)
Oh wow. Your drink was hot, and the little "oil" you saw was melted whipped cream...Let me introduce you to the concept of a hot drink and whipped topping. It melted. Next, Starbucks has excellent costumer service. If you EVER are unsatisfied, they will re-make your drink, no questions asked. They'll dump it all out and restart. I've done this before. Sometimes they even give you a little coupon for your next drink to be free!
I'm not reading this post, because I don't care about Starbucks.
The only reason I'm even responding at all is because "Gypped" is a derogatory slur against Gypsies.
Just because they aren't necessarily a huge group doesn't mean it's okay - it's still offensive regardless of how many people it doesn't offend.
And, the author of this post DIDN'T include the word "Gypped" in her blog at all. It was ADDED by whoever put it here on "ireallylikefood"
Class move, guys.
Oh, I went back!!! :D LOL I told them I would buy myself another drink and I explained what happened... the barista told me she would make me another drink at no cost and they told me to order without foam next time. Apparently, milk gets steamed differently without the foam as compared to with the foam. They're not so bad... but maybe I'll try the independent coffee shops next time. :)
Check your drink before you drive away next time. They might have mixed up your drink with someone else's, and even if they didnt, at least you'd be able to complain right then and there. That sucks, though. I've never had that problem at a starbucks before. Then again, that might be because I always walk inside and watch them make my drink.
I say no foam.
"Gypped" is a racial slur.
the toffee nut mochas are awful anyway! they taste like shit... yuck. There are very few drinks I like at starbucks. their coffee is sub-par and their specialty drinks are not as good as CARIBOU COFFEE (YUM!!!!)
=/ that sucks
@LitlKittyKat@xanga - as a previous starbucks barista, I can tell you that regardless whether you asked for foam or no foam, a latte should be filled to the top. Cappuccino is 1/2 foam, 1/2 milk and latte is only foamy at the top layer.... so regardless of you asking for foam or not, they made it wrong xD
@methodElevated@xanga - lol
i work there and yes they are FORCING us to make things differently and its STUPID they have us making all of this foam and then putting the syrups in last so they dont even get mixed in. i tried it for a day then realized it was STUPID and ppl dont want that.but sbux as a company is GOING DOWN THE TOILET i hate my job i hate making stupid coffee
@ridiculously_GORGEOUS@xanga - LoL there is no doubt in my mind that my coffee was good when it was made a second time... but the toffee nut syrup settled to the bottom. My last few gulps were of syrup, and that didn't go down so well... haha. It's all right though. I could never abandon Starbucks. LoL it's okay about the foam. They'll figure it out the hard way once customers start complaining to the DM about it.
@fairiesmythsdragons@xanga - What does an Earl Grey coffee taste like? Is that a mixture of tea and coffee?
@thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - Thank you for defending me. :) By the way, I looked up the word "gypped" was in the dictionary and it is actually a term that means to be cheated or swindled. I've never heard of it being used as a derogatory word. When did this come about?
@eomona@xanga - LOL I'll keep that in mind... :P
@LitlKittyKat@xanga - "Gypped" means "cheated" or "swindled" because people don't trust Gypsies. That's why it's deragatory.
Try going to a different Starbucks. I've found that some have better quality than others.
I love starbucks, and my favorite drink is a caramel frap. but i realized that I can go to McD's and I can get the same for cheaper. You just pay for the name. I'm sure you could probably make a better latte at home.
