  • Your Local and Unpretentious Food Critic: Trying Out Barnes and Noble Cafe's Cream Puff

I go to Barnes and Noble for food. It's true. The last time I bought an actual book from the bookstore was an SAT preparation book with a latte, over five years ago. But that's another story for another time. Today I'm going to look at Barnes and Noble Cafe's gigantic cream puff.

This monstrosity of a dessert caught my eye while I was originally going to try out the salted caramel hot chocolate. My attraction to the cream puff was undeniable. I had to try it out. Before I knew it, I was already throwing away an extra $3 for a food experience that could swing either way.

Barnes and Noble Cafe's Cream Puff Food Review

First Impression: A truly large cream puff. Clench your right hand into a rounded fist. Then place your left hand over your right handed fist; try to cover that fist. The cream puff was about the size of whatever I just described to you. The chocolate on top of the cream puff was dark. Other than that, typical, seemingly harmless cream puff.

Taste: Rich creamy chocolate. The bread was somewhat moist but unsoggy. Cream in the center was rich, light, not too sweet, and absolutely delicious. The combination of creamy chocolate, soft bread encasing, and generous vanilla center was truly a divine marriage of yummy goodness. I've tasted some pretty mouthwatering cream puffs in my life but very few come close to this orgasmic cream puff.

Likely to Buy Again: A resounding 100%. I believe the next time I go to a Barnes and Noble Bookstore is when I get a craving for some good cream puffs.

Final Comments: I'll admit I was skeptical by the cream puff. The chocolate on top did not look appealing and my experience at Beard Papa's really had me doubting this dessert. The reasons that pushed me to buy BN's cream puff was a) the size, b) the adventurous foodie in me, and c) past satisfactory experiences with the cafe's baked goods. Thankfully, I was convinced enough to try it out. This cream puff has been a mind blowing epiphany.

I was going to take a picture of the insides of the cream puff. I swear. It's just that I actually engorged the entirety of the cream puff in under 3 minutes. Before I knew it, I was taking a picture of an empty plate. So delicious; an enthusiastic recommendation for those stopping by a Barnes and Noble Cafe. You do not want to  miss out on something this delicious.

Oh and by the way, the salted caramel hot cocoa was decent, although not spectacular as the seasonal mocha toffee drink.

    Questions:

Cream puffs anyone? Have you ever had a mind blowing dessert from an unexpected place? Why do you go to Barnes and Nobles?
