Flowers Are Pretty... and Tasty Too!
I don't know about you but personally, I have always been intrigued by flowers. They are beautiful and makes anyone who is having a rough day, lighten up. Their aroma is amazing and they can even compliment an outfit. If you're wondering why I'm talking about flowers in this site, well,
Yes, my friends, I speak to you about edible flowers. I'm happy to share to you all the fact that I had the pleasure of actually eating the pretty wonder of nature in a restaurant. My fascination with flowers as food started during a lazy weekend when I was sitting comfortably on my inviting couch. I was lazy, it was raining so obviously, my only option was to enjoy reality TV... with a guilt.
I was watching a design show on TLC. The show featured an event designer who specializes in flower arrangements. In this particular episode, he was to create a chic and warm atmosphere for a restaurant celebrating its opening. This restaurant's menu is solely devoted to flowers.
I watched in amazement.'What? Flowers I can eat?' Oh yes, it turns out that there is a list of edible flowers. This was serious news to me. I, a meat lover who sees some sort of a heart attack or diabetes in my future, have been trying my best to find reasons why I should start eating veggies. I realized that this can save me.
From that day forth, I searched and searched for flowers I can eat. This is not easy (yeah, I know Google exist) because Spring had just began and I came across flowers of different varieties. Of course, I tried every flower that greeted my path. The first flower I tasted was.. uh, not great. It was very bitter and I felt like I was eating a bar of soap. Perhaps, that flower is meant for Bath & Body Works and not my mouth.
The others I tasted were not as bad. Finding out which flowers were edible was a difficult expedition. How was I supposed to know which is edible? I don't even know their names. I stopped randomly eating flowers when I saw this tree filled with gorgeous pink flowers. When I saw it, I just had to try it. So, I went for it. I was on my tippy-toes and I reached for a petal and I put it my mouth. Little did I know that it was a red light and people in their cars saw the whole thing.

That was maybe, a bit embarrassing.
Recently, I had dinner in NYC's financial center at a swanky restaurant called Wall & Water. What do you know? They had edible seasonal flowers in their appetizer menu. In this particular case, the flower was I could not hide my excitement. I was going to eat flowers in a manner that is more socially accepted.
Oh boy, was I glad to have ordered that! It was so good! It was so crisp, clean and hearty all at once. It was served with aged Parmesan, aged vinaigrette and mixed greens. It was surprisingly meaty. Since it was a flower and it looked very thin, l thought it not not satisfying but it was. Edible flowers are great really because you don't need to worry about presentation. It looks beautiful as is! Now, my boyfriend teases me and tells me that he may have to invest in edible flowers in cases when he wants to give me flowers.
Will you ever try eating flowers?

My friend did a design presentation about eating weeds and plants found in your front yard. For his presentation, he actually cooked some dandelions and plants with some salt and olive oil. It was actually quite delicious.
I wouldn't be against it...it would depend on the flower and how it was made and how it looked i guess.
I've had flowers sprinkled on my rhubarb before.
I would be all over that! Edible flowers sound awesome! :)
I want to eat some edible flowers!
Hm. Pretty food. Sure, I'd try it!
PLANT KILLER!
I'd rather not EAT flowers.
IF THAT'S ALRIGHT WITH EVERYONE ELSE.
i absolutely LOVE flowers. id try it!
growing up my mom gardened and she would bring in certain flowers for me to taste, I always really enjoyed them. She'd even freeze them in icecubes to make really pretty little accents to drop into tea and lemonade.
I love that you guys are thinking about it. I know it sounds weird but it's not all that different at all from eating a salad. Personally, I hate veggies and I don't like the color green so leafy green salads are pretty much icky to me but flowers are so colorful and just so pretty.
omg i cant >.<
For sure! I love flowers :3

I want to eat dandelion soup now.
Yeah definitely. My grandma taught me to eat geraniums and thought she was nuts at first but they're pretty darn good. And dammit, their just pretty. What's more invigorating and inspiring than a bowl of taste greens and flowers? I dunno.
Mmmmmm, *sips white tea with rose petals* yummy.
What a coincidence! I heard about this just two days ago when a friend told me, and I tried some (never thought I would) and surprisingly, it actually tasted pretty good.. haha like a more bitter form of lettuce, but nonetheless it was kinda good!
I love sprouts and pumpkin buds
