  • Save The Endangered Honey Bear!

September 1st kicks off National Honey Month! If you don't already know, there are hundreds of National food holidays throughout the year and they can definitely be fun to celebrate. I will be be mentioning lots more holidays throughout the month, so keep an eye out for one you may want to celebrate!

As part of National Honey Month, I will also be posting various recipes and news about honey throughout the month.

So, what's 'Save The Endangered Honey Bear' all about?

Saving the honey bear is a campaign to raise awareness against the honey flavored syrups or honey blends that are hitting the shelves. This imitation honey appears to customers as regular honey, but indeed it is anything but that. The honey bear is being used as a symbol to represent 100% pure honey. The campaign reminds people to always check the label! The ingredient list in 100% pure honey should just be honey

    From Honey.com

"By participating in this awareness campaign, you are helping and supporting the honey industry: family beekeeping businesses, honey bottlers and packers, and honey handlers."

"One in 10 (10%) random respondents think that honey has other or added ingredients, and an additional 15% don’t know what a bottle of honey contains."

Honey is being threatened by honey flavored syrups or honey that is diluted with other ingredients. They make look like honey, but they contain very small amounts of actual honey. Some brands may not even have an ingredient list and in that case it's real honey.

What can you do to help? Go out and buy some 100% pure honey or check them out on Facebook and help spread the word!

Have any questions, check out their FAQ's page.

Did you know that honey's only ingredient was honey?
