  • A Bitchin' Beer?

Extra Special Bitter meets American Brown Ale with Grand Teton's (Victor, ID) Bitch Creek Extra Special Brown Ale! At 54 IBUs and 6.0% alcohol it fits very well in line with the ESB style, but its roasted malt and dark color place it in more of a Brown Ale category. Who knows where it belongs, but is it really as bitchin' as the name suggests?

Pour: Dark, fizzy ruby red color with a small tan head that dissipated quickly and left minimal lacing on the glass. 3.5/5

Smell: Light aroma with citrus and piney hops up front with underlying notes of caramel malt and a hint of tangy fruitiness. 3.5/5

Taste: Starts off with a slight citrus hoppiness which gives way into a sweet caramel taste. The middle is rather yeasty and finishes up with a moderate piney hop bitterness that lingers for a bit. 4/5

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with pretty high carbonation. Dry finish. 4/5

Drinkability: I could kill a few of these easily. A very sessionable beer. 4.5/5

Final Notes: I don't know whether this is closer to an ESB or a Brown in flavor profile really. An easy drinking session beer, nonetheless. Overall of 3.85/5 for a B+.

Have you tried this, what were your thoughts?
