Chambord Tasting
Sorry it's been awhile since my last review. I recently found out I am allergic to gluten so I've been doing quite a bit of research on that. No more beer for me (sorry secretbeerreporter).
Anyways, I thought I'd do something fun. Chambord. It's a French black raspberry liqueur that's distributed out of Kentucky. I'm not crazy about the bottle and the label, but I guess that's not too important. When I was less into liquor I had no idea what it was for the longest time. It also just doesn't pull off the classy look it's trying to go for.
Nose: Oh My Gosh. I started salivating right away. A wall of fresh raspberry preserves hit your nose as you take a whiff. It reminds me of eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches growing up. Raspberry preserves were my favorite (and still are). This is followed by a very small hint of alcohol.
Taste: This tastes like a thinner less sweet raspberry syrup with a tiny bit of alcohol. It goes down incredibly smooth. I also taste a little bit of honey in it. This is very good and I can see this being incredibly versatile but it's definitely a dessert liqueur. It would pair nicely with a lot of different dessert foods including ice cream and even crepes. However, it is slightly expensive.
Drinkability: This is a little too sweet to have by itself but perhaps if I used ice it tone it down a bit. As I said though, it seems very versatile to use for cocktails and to pair with food. A-/$33
And for the cocktail:
I don't know what this should be called but I stumbled upon the recipe on a yelp discussion earlier today.
- 1.5 ounces vanilla vodka
- 1.5 ounces chambord
- 1.5 ounces pineapple juice
Combine that in your shaker and pour over ice in a rocks glass

I don't know about you, but I get a little giddy when I pour the cocktail into my glass and there's a nice head of foam on the top. This is a pretty decent and fairly strong cocktail. I could definitely have only have one because it's fairly sweet, but would make a nice dessert. Though, it's definitely not a fake gross sweetness but a fruity sweetness. It also has a nice viscosity to it and it feels nice as it goes down.
What's your favorite Chambord cocktail?

never heard of it. i will check it next time i go liquor store. thanks.
thanks for sharing.
I love a good French martini.... mmm, I want one!
Should do something on Aquavit - I saw it on Cooking Channel the other day and can't find it anywhere or know enough about it to buy it, but also can't find anywhere locally that makes a drink using it.
I don't know. I think I'm going to have to create one. Maybe something with bourbon . . .
i use Chambord when i make sex on the beach. It is sooooo good.
@Thumper49047@xanga - I had never heard of Aquavit so I looked it up to see if there were any substitutions you could use. Apparently absinthe is a good substitution, though it tends to be pretty pricey.
@SpiritedConvo - yeah I read that somewhere as well. Not sure if I want to shell out the cash to buy a bottle and no where (besides Grand Rapids or Chi-town) serves it so wasn't sure!
This was published at such an ironic time... In roughly 1 hour, I'm going to my favorite bar. Anytime I go to this bar, I get a drink called a Grateful Dead. Basically, it's a Long Island, but instead of using Coke/Pepsi, you use Chambord and sweet & sour mix. It tastes amazing. It's relatively potent and tart, so I don't suggest drinking them all night. But Chambord is quite delicious =)
Here's my Grateful Dead recipe:
One part = roughly 1/2 ounce
1 part tequila
1 part white rum
1 part vodka
1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 part Chambord
2 parts sweet & sour mix
Mix and serve over ice =)
I don't like anything that tastes like alcohol, so the less alcohol it has in it, the better. I like the bottle. I once bought a bottle of malibu rum and dumped all the rum out just kept the bottle. I like the bottle.
Chambord is a staple in my cabinet. I'm not sure if this is an established drink or if it has a name, but it's something I threw together. Mix to taste:
- Chambord
- Melon Liqueur
- a splash of Banana Liqueur
- a hefty splash of vodka (depending on your preference)
- top off with Cranberry Juice
- serve over ice
If done right, it's delicious with an all-night drinkability. Just watch out for the wall.
@explosive@xanga - I hate the taste of alcohol too, and even though this doesn't have a lot..if you hate the taste as much as I do, you'll still hate Chambourd.
I cannot drink this. I was so excited to try it and I've still got a half empty bottle. :(
@DiamondRevolver_xx@xanga - Wow! That sounds awesome! I'll have to try that!
@Super_Andy@xanga - That also sounds really good. Definitely another recipe I'll have to try.
The first time I had it, it was mixed with Raspberry Smirnoff Vodka, and Red Bull.
Pretty good, I must say.
i've always wondered about this drink! Thanks for posting!
@DiamondRevolver_xx@xanga - mmm that sounds great! But I feel like you would be really drunk from that. lol
@explosive@xanga - that's a shame. Why didn't you give away the booze at least
