  • Chambord Tasting

Sorry it's been awhile since my last review.  I recently found out I am allergic to gluten so I've been doing quite a bit of research on that.  No more beer for me (sorry secretbeerreporter).

Anyways, I thought I'd do something fun.  Chambord.  It's a French black raspberry liqueur that's distributed out of Kentucky.  I'm not crazy about the bottle and the label, but I guess that's not too important.  When I was less into liquor I had no idea what it was for the longest time.  It also just doesn't pull off the classy look it's trying to go for.

Nose: Oh My Gosh. I started salivating right away.  A wall of fresh raspberry preserves hit your nose as you take a whiff.  It reminds me of eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches growing up.  Raspberry preserves were my favorite (and still are).  This is followed by a very small hint of alcohol.

Taste: This tastes like a thinner less sweet raspberry syrup with a tiny bit of alcohol.  It goes down incredibly smooth.  I also taste a little bit of honey in it.  This is very good and I can see this being incredibly versatile but it's definitely a dessert liqueur.  It would pair nicely with a lot of different dessert foods including ice cream and even crepes. However, it is slightly expensive.

Drinkability: This is a little too sweet to have by itself but perhaps if I used ice it tone it down a bit.  As I said though, it seems very versatile to use for cocktails and to pair with food.  A-/$33

    And for the cocktail:

I don't know what this should be called but I stumbled upon the recipe on a yelp discussion earlier today.

    • 1.5 ounces vanilla vodka
    • 1.5 ounces  chambord
    • 1.5 ounces pineapple juice

Combine that in your shaker and pour over ice in a rocks glass

I don't know about you, but I get a little giddy when I pour the cocktail into my glass and there's a nice head of foam on the top.  This is a pretty decent and fairly strong cocktail.  I could definitely have only have one because it's fairly sweet, but would make a nice dessert.  Though, it's definitely not a fake gross sweetness but a fruity sweetness.  It also has a nice viscosity to it and it feels nice as it goes down.

    What's your favorite Chambord cocktail?
