  • Take A Trip to Long Island For The Best Diner Ever!

The Northeast is infamous for their diners. Coming from Long Island, there are few diners on the island that I haven't visited at one point in my life. Diners are great for so many reasons. First of all diners are fairly cheap, they are open 24/7, and the menu is usually 7 pages long filled with any type of food under the sun ranging from blueberry pancakes to steak with a side of cheesy fries and gravy.

The Peter Pan Diner located in Bay Shore, New York is hands down the best diner. It's right off of sunrise highway, and looks like any other diner located directly off a main highway but the food is amazing, and I mean AMAZING! I would rather eat at this diner than go to Spago in Beverly Hills and I'm serious. Walk in and your rushed off to a both, the ceiling is decorated with fake flowers (with the price tags still attached) and christmas lights all year round, just like the fairy tale it's named after. There is a table with their specials of the day prominently displayed, probably cooked that morning and left to sit for a full 24 hours so customers can take a looksee at what's offered. The waitstaff is friendly and have worked there for years. *I'm practically a regular.

This diner has a website, http://www.peterpandiner.org/, and has been voted numerous times Best Long Island Diner etc. But the reason this diner is soo great is their Ruben Sandwich. It's served with french fries and the best russian dressing every made *something about it, its pink and amazing. The sandwich is perfectly toasted, the cheese melted to perfection... yummy! I've tried to replicate this very sandwich, but can never match the amazingness that is the Ruben from Peter Pan.

So next time you are traveling through Long Island, and you feel like getting the ultimate diner experience check out Peter Pan Diner!

    What's your best diner experience?

    • About Me: Hey! I'm Gilly... after graduating from college I packed up my bags and moved to Australia. Upon arrival I was prepared for the obligatory shrimp on the barbie and a Fosters beer but there was none in sight. In fact Aussies call shrimp prawns, and Fosters is quite possible the worst beer to hit Australian shores... so my friends put some snags (sausages) on the barbie and handed me a tinny (beer) and introduced me to a world of food I never expected from the land down under. While there I tried authentic some authentic Aussie Bush Tucker including, alligator pie, kangaroo steaks, and camel bolognese...to name a few. My friends and I did road trips up the Australian East Coast, Tasmania, and New Zealand cooking food out the back of our campervan. I hope to share with you some stories and recipes from our travels. Enjoy!
