I'm not sure what hit me today but I suddenly have such a huge craving for yummy aperitifs!! How I miss all the home parties I went to in Paris where my friends would whip up a table full of aperitif delights like in the photo above, complete with glasses of champagne, some anise-flavored liquor or martini! Sometimes this preview to the main dinner course makes the highlight of my night rather than the actual dinner itself! I also prefer the feeling of just lazing there on the huge comfy couch and chatting the night away with friends between yummy bites over a rigid sit-down dinner at a big dining table.
Are you a fan of the aperitif experience too? Is it common in your culture to have
une petite bouffe entre amis before the real dinner party?

Derrrr....um...I'm from Texas. What are you talking about?
Same here. We don't do that in Wisconsin. What are they?
@BEAUTIFULCINNAMONQUEEN@xanga - I think they are kinda like appetizers..
@NightCometh@xanga - haha i'm from texas too. we either go straight to the entree or have texas sized appetizers and share with a group.
@BEAUTIFULCINNAMONQUEEN@xanga - Looks really hoity-toity to me!
@NightCometh@xanga - @sugar_mama@xanga - Lol, chips and salsa ftw!
According to Google an aperitif is a pre-dinner drink.
Yeah aperatifs are alcoholic beverages that are traditionally sipped before dinner to whet the appetite and let you digest the oncoming meal more easily... I think the phrase you were looking for is hors d'oeuvres. Whatever you call them; appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, or crudites, casually joining friends for some low-pressure grazing is always nice. I have to agree, at family get-togethers, most of the fun is tasting the different finger foods people bring.
