  • The Hottest Pepper On Earth

What's the hottest pepper you've ever tried? A jalepeño? A cayenne? Maybe even a habanero? Well those are all fine and dandy, but if you want to eat a pepper that's REALLY spicy, there's one pepper that makes the rest of the peppers in the pepper world look like child's play. But be forewarned, this thing is definitely a doozy, so those of you who are faint at heart may not want to read on.

The hottest pepper on earth is called the Bhut Jolokia Pepper. Personally, I thought the habanero was the hottest pepper on earth, but I was sadly mistaken when I came across this bad boy. It's known over here as the Ghost Chili. And when I say it's hot I mean this thing is HOT. It's about 400 times HOTTER than Tabasco sauce! Ouch.

It's from India (which by the way, have you noticed that all of the most interesting stuff comes from abroad?) and apparently, despite how hot it is, the pepper is sometimes used to cure stomach ailments! Who would have known.

It's also used as a weapon! In India, the peppers are soon going to be used in hand grenades to thwart terrorists and in pepper spray. So unless you are adventurous or crazy, I wouldn't recommend eating this pepper anytime soon. It's a lethal weapon! It's the hottest pepper on the Scoville Scale, ranging from 855,000–1,075,000. To understand how hot that is, a jalapeño is 2,500-8,000 and a habanero is 350,000-580,000. And at the grocery store they tell you to not wipe your eyes after handling habaneros.

    Habanero. Child's play.

Needless to say the Bhut Jolokia is one hot pepper! What's the hottest food you've ever tried? Do you like spicy food?
