The Hottest Pepper On Earth
What's the hottest pepper you've ever tried? A jalepeño? A cayenne? Maybe even a habanero? Well those are all fine and dandy, but if you want to eat a pepper that's REALLY spicy, there's one pepper that makes the rest of the peppers in the pepper world look like child's play. But be forewarned, this thing is definitely a doozy, so those of you who are faint at heart may not want to read on.
The hottest pepper on earth is called the Bhut Jolokia Pepper. Personally, I thought the habanero was the hottest pepper on earth, but I was sadly mistaken when I came across this bad boy. It's known over here as the Ghost Chili. And when I say it's hot I mean this thing is HOT. It's about 400 times HOTTER than Tabasco sauce! Ouch.

It's from India (which by the way, have you noticed that all of the most interesting stuff comes from abroad?) and apparently, despite how hot it is, the pepper is sometimes used to cure stomach ailments! Who would have known.
It's also used as a weapon! In India, the peppers are soon going to be used in hand grenades to thwart terrorists and in pepper spray. So unless you are adventurous or crazy, I wouldn't recommend eating this pepper anytime soon. It's a lethal weapon! It's the hottest pepper on the Scoville Scale, ranging from 855,000–1,075,000. To understand how hot that is, a jalapeño is 2,500-8,000 and a habanero is 350,000-580,000. And at the grocery store they tell you to not wipe your eyes after handling habaneros.
Habanero. Child's play. Needless to say the Bhut Jolokia is one hot pepper! What's the hottest food you've ever tried? Do you like spicy food?

I love spicy food. I've had habanero a couple of times before (not raw, but accompanied in some dishes) and it was quite spicy.
I love to try this bhut jolokia, but it seems rare. Rare foods are usually expensive, especially in my area.
Oh wow. I hardly even like hot food. I use medium hot sauce when I go to TacoBell.
I hadn't heard the real name, but I've definitely heard of the "ghost pepper." Down here they have contests for eating it. No thank you...I prefer my salsa mild.
I ate a Habanero the other day. I was goofing around, and I thought, ah, can't be that bad. BIG mistake. I was sweating, brick red, and I felt like I had a high fever. I believe it's needless to say I will never do that again.
Whoa, scary. Wouldn´t want to eat that by mistake.
When I was little I picked up a dried pepper because I thought it looked funny. I set in back down and later wiped my eyes. The whole grocery store heard me scream.
I like spicy, but not that spicy.
Habaneros are just the hottest commercially grown peppers.
I'm sure my ex would love to try your pepper.
When I did a report on peppers when I was in grade school, it was actually illegal to consume this pepper. Kind of cool that they changed it now.
The Bhut Jolokia owns all! it is an awesome chilli!
I can't take anything that's hot or spicy. My tongue is super sensitive, I'll die. lol
i can not take spicy stuff! not even hot cheetos. -___-
Jalapenos are too hot for me. I can handle spicy pretty well though; better than most people.
What about the "The Merciless Peppers of Quetzlzacatenango
- Grown deep in the jungle primeval by the inmates of a Guatemalan
insane asylum"
@filipinaxL0VE@xanga - those flaming hot cheetos are one of the hottest things i've ever eaten.
We have these food chains near my college called "Cluck-U Chicken" and they have wings served with "911 sauce". To even eat the sauce/wings, you have to sign a form saying you won't sue if you like, need a hospital trip or whatever. So I tried the sauce. At first, I was laughing at how it was so weak. Then it hit me. Oh. My. God. My throat practically swelled shut and my eyes were like fire hydrants spraying out water everywhere. It was so painful. :( I wish I knew what they put in the sauce so I know what to avoid next time.
now i know how to legally "unintentionally" torture/kill/interrogate someone with my grocery store. :D
I ate a pepper once that looked like this, and the person who gave it to me was claiming it to be the world's hottest...maybe I've tried it? Anyway, the pepper was smashed up into a paste, and I put some on the end of my tongue...
I developed a blister, my whole mouth went numb (to the touch, I could still feel all of the burning) and I cried. Not many things can make me cry, so this pepper should feel very important.
I ate this pepper once!
Or, rather, a small bit of it.I then proceeded to chug milk for the next 20 minutes.@verified_but_still_denied@xanga - i bet i can take it.
I <3 spicy. I make spicy stuff at least 4 x's a week. I probably wouldn't want to try it but i LOVE spicy...
the guy off of Man VS Food had something with ghost chili sauce... I think they called it "Shut Up Juice"
I love spicy food, but I tried a whole raw habanero and it was nooo fun at all, my husband thought it was hilarious until he realized that I used his chapstick and he got to suffer through burning lips. Even if they weren't as on fire as mine I was happy. Lol.
I LOVEE SPICY FOOD! But not THAT spicy..
I have a hot sauce made from this pepper. I love it!
i don't think i can handle it... habanero is enough!
