What's The Best Airplane Food You've Ever Had?

On my travels, I have definitely had my share of airplane food...some good and some definitely bad. Although recently I have experienced food so great even for economy class that I was excited and counting down until the next meal! I flew to Australia via Europe, and Singapore so you have 36 hours worth of meals in flight that included breakfast, light lunch, lunch, snack, dinner and supper. I received a menu with two options for each meal. Should I have the Teriyaki Salmon served over noodles with the potato salad or the Chicken Pad Thai? Choices...choices.If you are fortunate enough to fly First Class, Business,or in the Suites, you can actually order your main course in advance with their exclusive Book the Cook service. You choose the cook from a list, and choose a menu for your flight! Some choices include Lobster Thermidor with buttered asparagus, slow-roasted vine-ripened tomato and saffron rice, or Pan-fried veal loin and braised veal cheek with parsnip purée, garden vegetables and sautéed mushrooms. Those meals are served in actual plates, and not in a tray but of course I was only flying Economy class. With unlimited Singapore Slings cocktails, I still ate extremely well. The best meal I had in flight was delicious Spicy Thai Noodles with chicken, a delicious garden salad, fresh rolls, fruit salad, and dessert was a Maxibon (a really yummy honeycomb and chocolate ice cream bar from Australia). It was better than some Thai food I've had at actual restaurants that were Zagat rated! On the other hand I was on a Qantas flight in Australia where my in flight meal was merely a piece of white bread with some sort of processed turkey and a weird mustard relish slapped together with a piece of lettuce and called a sandwich. No side salad, no fruit... I realized how great a real inflight meal could be.

Lamb medallions with red pepper. It was in coach, on a 12-hour to London, British Airways, in '01.
well, at the time it all usually tastes fabulous because i'm so ridiculously starving by the time i get it. then it makes me feel sick later usually...
my most memorable meal was way back when i was 11 or 12, flying down to florida. this was back when they served meals on shorter flights too. they were passing around these chicken sandwiches in a basket, and i was absolutely starving. staring at this basket, waiting ravenously until it reached me... and it was empty by the time it was about to come to me. so i had to wait even longer for the stewardesses to heat up more. even though it was probably made out of cardboard, it was about the greatest thing in the world when i got one.
On Thai Airways and Air Lanka. Some of the best steaks were on those. The worst airline to travel is WestJet Airlines and Air Canada. Terrible. Specially if it is a long journey! But Singapore Airlines food service is excellent.
By the way, sis you know that on Sri Lankan Airlines, the bar is free, and you can have enough of alchohol.
I flew with Emirates, and I had a great meal. All I remember is the dessert, and it was some sort of cheesecake with this great raspberry sauce. It was amazing!
Asiana airlines
@Mal_P@xanga - Thanks, I'm from Singapore and our airline service is gooood. Hehe now I sound like I'm advertising for us.
Honestly, the best airline food I've had was an apple and instant noodles, because their food was bleagh.
P.S. Never used Singapore Airlines before.
I have flown mostly domestically in the past few years which means if I was lucky, I got pretzels. They were okay pretzels :P
@youngnsassy@xanga - You should. They were ones who trained us, on Air Lanka. There service is excellent. And food par excellenco
On my flight to Seattle, it was freezing. The stewardess brought me a cup of really bland coffee and a packet of ginger snap cookies. That was the best.
Just flew back from Turkey and had the best seafood salad.... and when the stewdess went to address something else and left the cart next to me, I took a few extra scoops, he he he!!!
It was a pre-packaged meal on a 7-hour Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt, but good lord was it tasty! It was a sort of beef stew, and it came with crackers, cheeses, and a cup of strawberry yogurt on the side. Delish! We were given metal sporks with which to eat it. Metal sporks!! This was quite a novelty to me.
I do miss the days when Southwest Airlines offered Jelly Belly jelly beans. Of course, that was when their flights were actually affordable, too...
Can't say I've had a favorite meal, but I still find microwaved rice strange (especially when they've burnt it). It's nice that they remind your body the proper meal times when making trips half way across the world though.
lol a couple of bags of nuts ;)
fuck, i don't know. the last time I was on a plane was 16 years ago.
The best was this cheesesteak sandwich thing I had on my way back from Alaska - it was delicious! I scarfed it down so quickly... (Disclaimer: my tastebuds might have been tricked into thinking it was better than it actually was; I was really hungry.)
It was actually when I was flying coach in Peru.
The carrier was LAN. The plane was awesome, and we were served roasted chicken (over rice, covered in chicken), salad with Italian dressing, and a brownie-ish type dessert. It was amazing. Even their snacks were good.Korean Air -- Beef bibimbap!
I was on a flight from Detroit to Narita, Japan and they served Japenese styled noodles. It was amazing!(:
I have flown with a lot of airlines, I remember the meals use to be slightly better when I was younger chicken, vegetables and pudding.
One time we had a few slices of cheese, ham, chicken and a few bread rolls, followed by pudding and I think there was a salad dish, this was the meal on the plane.
Japanese for sure. I had a warmed steamed rice with egg and chicken in a japanese style. yum!
I flew continental (coach) a few years ago and had a pretty good chicken sandwich. It's unfortunate they've since stopped serving meals on domestic flights.
first class from japan, sashimi arrangement with sweet grilled veggies on the side and some kind of fruit wine. i melted in delight.
the kiddie meals my dad used to pre-order for me and my sister. =]
Everything airline-related was wonderful before September 11, 2001. Fuck whoever started that shit.
