  • Impressive Amateur Cakes!

My sister C's highschool had an applied skills night showing off the senior home economic classes' cake creations. I was delightfully surprised by the impressive cake decorations displayed - not bad at all for amateurs! This goes to show that you don't have to be a bakery chef to create impressive cakes, you just need a little patience and a whole lot of trial and error.

My absolute favourite is the Wallace and Gromit cake

    Followed by the Picnic

Domo-kun (this one was actually made by my godbrother)

    The Piano

    Monopoly

    and Sushi

I didn't stay for the cake tasting because I don't like the taste of fondant, but seeing these cakes makes me jealous that I never got the chance to learn how to decorate cakes like these.

Have you ever tried elaborately decorating your own cake? What was your experience like?

    • About Me: I'm a Visual Arts undergrad at University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver. I'm a piscetarian which limits my choices at restaurants sometimes - I'm sorry I love my sushi too much. I love to eat! I mean, what else is there to do in Vancouver but take advantage of the diverse cuisine we have here? I think food has a bonding effect on people because over dinner we talk, laugh, enjoy each other's company and everyone at the table are your friends. I grew up in a hybrid culture - east meets west, which allowed me to learn and experience various cuisines. I also grew up in a family that loves and stresses on cooking and respect for food - grandmothers always cooking something, aunts trying to help in the kitchen and shooing us out, uncles doing the "labour work" of gutting and sneaking us sips
