What's the normal way to eat a hamburger? With beef. (Which by the way, I have yet to understand why something that is called a HAMburger is made with beef. I'm sure there is some sort of historical significance behind it). But there are restaurants that have pushed the limits and started to make burgers with different sorts of meat....forget about beef people.
I was watching the Travel Channel (yes, I watch the Travel Channel) and there was a section about burgers with obscure meats. And to be honest, I had never thought about eating a burger with any meat besides beef or turkey, but these burgers sound so innovative that I am actually willing to give them a try!
Elk Burger
Apparently Elk burgers taste pretty good. They aren't gamy in flavor and allegedly they are lower in fat than other meats like beef and pork. Or at least that's what the Elk website said. They must be Elk experts over there.
Ostrich Burger
Ostrich burger? Sounds weird right? But apparently it's low in saturated fat. It's described to have a similar texture to beef. But it's probably hard to get a nice Ostrich burger in the good ol' Us of A.
Buffalo Burger
To some people who have had them, Buffalo burgers taste better than the average beef burger. Apparently they aren't gamy or greasy.
Kangaroo Burger
Kangaroo burger? I don't know about this one. There's something about eating something with a pouch that doesn't quite sit right with me. But for those who are adventurous enough to eat a Kangaroo burger, they are apparently a little bit gamy, but not overpoweringly so.
This is an emu.
This is an Emu Burger
I couldn't find much about people's experiences with eating an Emu burger, but I would assume that it tastes similar to the Ostrich burger.
Would you ever eat one of these burgers? What's the strangest burger you've tried?

No... I don't promote the devouring of species we do not breed for consumption.
I've had buffalo and beefalo, (from the offspring of cattle and bison), elk, and bear. We raise goats, so I've had goat burgers. You didn't mention turkey burgers, and for those who don't eat meat, there are the soy burgers, and garden burgers, etc. Many have their good points, and I've tried the ones I've listed. Some day, I plan to visit Exotic Meats, and try some emu, gazelle, giraffe, and others. They do not come from Africa; those animals are raised here in Texas.
I would eat all of them. Then again, I'm not a picky eater.
I have had deer burger. Someone tricked me into eating it. But it was pretty good.
Had ostrich once. Have no desire to eat elk or buffalo whereas they are magnificent beats who live in the wild and bother no humans. What the hell is wrong with cow anyway? if you really must try new things then why not vegetarianism or something?
I have a box of buffalo burgers sitting in the freezer, because nobody wants to eat them.
There's a place in Queens called BareBurger that sells most of these; when I went I was only brave enough to have the buffalo burger.
I had an ostrich burger once when I was in England. It was delicious!
wow. humans are fucking disgusting. why don't we have limits to what the hell we eat?
this really pisses me off. I would go off on a rant about why the hell people think they have the right to abuse everything in nature.. but I won't.
@ivarahBharavi@xanga - whoops. sorry i didnt know this was an animal protest website.
@squeakysoul@xanga - I love BAREBURGER! I've had the elk, bison, and ostrich
@Stephanie - lol i meant to say bison burger and it came out buffalo. HEHE
I've had kangaroo burgers and they're pretty awesome. They are also lower in fat and supposed to be better for you. These animals are actually bred for eating though -- not the ones from the wild. Crocodile is actually pretty nice too. Tastes like a combination of chicken and fish.
I'm actually pretty keen to try some of these burgers actually...
I definitely want to try all those someday.
@ericsusername - woah it's an animal protest website? I didn't know that either! well thanks for letting me know. you must be really smart.
@ivarahBharavi@xanga - you're quite welcome pal! :D
@ericsusername - ... very funny.
i wouldn't mind eating all that
I've eaten ostrich and buffalo burgers. Both were tasty! ~ L
@ivarahBharavi@xanga - rofl because trying new things is abusing everything in nature. We eat fruit right? Vegetables?
On a side note: i've had kangaroo before, now before you guys go on about "how cute they are etc etc." there are alot of them here and sometimes they are in such density that they eat alot of the farm goods that are produced in the country. Now thats not to say I condone killing them because of that, I think you just have to try things once in your life.
The word "hamburger" is derived from the German city of Hamburg. I have heard various stories on the origins of the hamburger, and all of them seem to have some connection to the city.
I would probably try all of them. I would want to know what I was eating before I put it my mouth, but I would definitely try them.
@The_Deepest_Sorrow@xanga - yes.. but fruits and vegetables aren't living things! plus, they don't have the capacity to feel pain. and we do abuse everything in nature. just because we're "trying new things", it doesn't mean that it's a good thing. we're now at the point where we don't kill and eat animals for nutrition, but instead just because they may or may not taste good. hence the disgust.
im all for all of them:).ate ostrich before n loved it totally for its tenderness!!
i can imagine all of them tender in texture except buffalo.
