As I'm a lover of all things stewish, curry is one of my favorite things to eat. I love the idea of slopping things up with bread or rice or anything starchy to get the last drop of tastiness. Besides, curry is incredibly forgiving to cook -- you can pretty much throw anything you want in, add in copious amounts of garlic, onion, and all sorts of spices, and just let it melt together into the perfect pot of goodness.

My first encounter with curry was actually Japanese chicken katsu cury. There's something so perfect with the melding of the crunch of panko breading with the juicy chicken meat and the smooth and slightly sweet Japanese curry sauce.

Then I met Thai curries, with the genius addition of coconut milk and Thai chillis, blended together to form the best combination of the sweet and spicy.

But I really fell in love when I encountered Indian curries, with their wide use of so many different spices that create an amazing depth of flavor. There's never a concern of something being underseasoned when you eat curry. More often than not, you're so overwhelmed by the layers created by the multitude of spices used that you're just swimming in some sort of food nirvana.
Are you a fan of curry? What's your favorite? Japanese? Thai? Or Indian? And which curry specifically? (Mine is either Lamb Vindaloo or Chicken Tikka Masala.)

Definitely Indian. Mmm saag aloo and this one mushroom vindaloo from a restaurant in Berkeley are my faves.
Oh I LOVE Thai curries. I started on Indian curries though. Those are delicious.
I love them all.
"More often than not, you're so overwhelmed by the layers created by the multitude of spices used that you're just swimming in some sort of food nirvana." What a great line. I've been asked to defend my love of curry from time to time... I really couldn't explain it. LOL This is a perfect explanation.
thai curry :)
I haven't tried any other curries other than Thai and Indian. I like them both equally, but because Hmong cuisine is highly influenced from Thai, I am better at making Thai curries and therefore eat it more often. Indian curries consists of many spices that I know nothing of, nor where to purchase them. More importantly, I'd rather dine in at an Indian restaurant to enjoy Indian curry :)
Damn you, Ireallylikefood. I am now hungrier than I was before.
curry makes me throw up especially if its too strong and i eat too much of it.
i do like the second picture though. thats japanese curry right. so good. that piece of fried chicken on the side really helps wash down the taste of the curry. balances everything really well.
I <3 curry. All of them. But the spicier the better

I love all the curries and you left out Jamacian curry!!! NOM NOM NOM!!! Curried goat!!! I am making Thai curry tonight!!! Bought the cheater sauce from Trader Joe's!!!
i've only tried japanese and filipino curries though. i'm REALLY interested in trying thai and indian varieties! my only problem: i'm pretty much a wuss when it comes to spicy food ><; sighh i'm missing out on life :(
For eating in you can't beat Japanese curry, it's so easy to just mix into whatever you're making. But when I'm eating out it's pretty much equal between all the curries. Sometimes my wuss stomach can't take the hotter end of the spectrum though.
Indian Curry all the way! I grew up on curry, I love then all but Indian is the best. Madras Indi Curry is the best.
