  • Daily Q: Do You Have a Weekly Grocery Budget?

I've just recently created a weekly grocery shopping budget. I have been eating out way too much, seriously. My fiance and I decided enough was enough and we needed to start actually eating real dinners at home. We also need to start saving and spending our money more wisely so the first step was creating a budget.

I have set a budget of about $60 a week or $120 for two weeks since I do get paid bi-weekly. I think 120 is too much though, so it might end up averaging about 100 bucks for every two weeks to feed two people. I hope to continuously stick to this plan because it's definitely a good habit to get into. This is the first week of the budget and so far so good.

Do you set budgets? What is the budget for your groceries and/or eating out?

We are fortunate enough not to have to set a food budget.  I still try to buy frugally, though.

My husband and I have a grocery/food budget of $100 per week until we pay off our cars and the last bit of credit card debt. While $100 a week might sound like a lot, it really barely covers the week because I refuse to spend it on cheap junk food, but buy organic and whole foods as often as I possibly can.

i stick to about $20/ week. crazy, i know.

For my fiance and myself, I try to stay at $30 a week. That means I really need to watch the weekly ads though, and buy in bulk wherever I can. It's hard, because we try to eat organic and all that, but yeah. It works. This budget has helped us cut out all the red meat we used to eat that we didn't need.

My boyfriend and myself try to spend only $30 - and it goes a long way. By not buying organic crap, checking flyers, getting coupons, and just keeping an eye out for the competition in store's sales. We do buy large sums of ground beef, and chicken breasts because we find we eat a lot of our meals with it. Also, we like to stock up on things such as spaghetti noodles, anything really canned (soup, sauces, etc.) and as I said before, the beef & chicken. I'm going to try growing our own Tomatoes, saves us money and they are in a lot of my recipes :)

Yes, I've got a strict $25 a week budget. Hopefully I can stretch that. Being vegetably-inclined is not as inexpensive as purported.

How is organic "crap"? I'm pretty sure pesticides are crappier.

my boyfriend and i usually spend anywhere from $30-100 every time we go to the grocery store, but we tend to go at least twice a week. we only get stuff we know we will eat in the next few days, or ingredients to cook with that night. i'm also a vegan and we are both health conscious [low calorie, lots of produce, low sodium, nothing processed or artificial, and no unnecessary ingredients for pete's sake] so we buy organic and nutritious whole food and lots and lots of produce, since pretty much everything has to be home made for me to eat it. if we go to the grocery store 2-3 times and spend $50 each time that's $150 per week. so i think your budget is frugal but it depends what kinds of stuff you buy really

I don't have a set budget for groceries, but I go grocery shopping roughly every 2 weeks and spend about an average of $25-30 each time. I don't eat out much - maybe like once every 3 months on average?
