Spotlight On Ramps!
The other day at the farmers' market, I noticed a really really long line at one of the vegetable stands, which is a pretty rare occurrence. I took at look at what the hype was about. Apparently, ramps are the new "it" veggie.
Ramps, also known as spring onions or wild leeks, are part of the onion family. Its flavor is a combination of garlic and onions and is in season in April. Ramps are very popular in West Virginia yet considered a rare delicacy in Canada.
Ramps are interchangeable with scallions and garlic and is a great addition to some springtime recipes. Ramps are also tasty when pickled.
They are suddenly trendy and high in demand because New York City chefs are using them in a lot of their dishes this season, as reported on Slashfood.
Have you ever tried a ramp? Did you like it?

Ramps stink SO badly!
I'm from WV, and when my mother makes these, the house smells for days. But they're amazing when combined with some form of potato, haha.
@ArtByV@xanga - Way back in '05 or '06 my father tried to get me into the Acai trend by buying me a bottle of Unsweetened 100% Acai Juice.
In all honesty, the taste reminded me of the smell of soil. I enjoy Acai when sweetened with some agave juice or something, but alone they're comparable to Earthworms.
I haven't tried it but I would love to.
Going to school in WV starting in August...I'll have to keep an eye out next year! They sound delicious!!!
