I've always loved
Sex and the City, which I started watching before I could understand any of the jokes and which has continued to influence many of my major life decisions (kidding, sort of). One of my favorite parts about the show was the weekly "power lunches" that Carrie and her gal pals treated themselves to, and involved many variations of salads and fruit (with the occasional sandwich thrown in the mix). While these lunches are standard fare for women, on the men's side, power lunches often consisted of a filet mignon and a martini....or three.
This
article from the New York Post examines the changing nature of the afternoon business meal. It seems that the steak and martinis have been replaced by salads and Diet Coke...meaning that the manly executives of corporate America are turning into Carrie Bradshaw and company?! The top dogs give various excuses for this phenomenon, saying that getting piss drunk at noontime doesn't exactly lead to post-lunch productivity, and that they now have to be health-conscious in order to impress clients and seal deals.
The new best sellers for men are lunch are: the "power breakfast" at Michael's (egg whites, citrus salad, spinach), berries, granola, Pellegrino in lieu of wine, crudités and fish dishes. Sounds both healthy and delicious! Carrie and the girls would be so proud.
Do you think corporate lunches are changing? Is it because of health consciousness or the economy?

SPEW I'd want a steak and martini for a power lunch. Not a flaky salad and pop. How lame (and cheap).
Meh what can we expect from the corporate world. They either are big spenders, or the cheapest motherf'ers in the world.
I tried to order salads and ice tea and lemonade for a business luncheon once and EVERYBODY complained. One executive said the entire plane ride he kept thinking about the sirloin burgers he thought we'd have.
I am sure it has to do with the lack of productivity after having a few too many and maybe a little to do with image. They will base the lunch on the client they are trying to seal the deal with.
@BEAUTIFULCINNAMONQUEEN@xanga - ROFL. I would have handed him a tissue to cry in. and said I would offer you my shoulder, but you might blow your nose on it.
@Erika_Steele@xanga - lol
probably depends on who you are trying to impress
i mean i should probably just get a salad, but i prefer..appetizers and then the lunch menu which is probably too much for me to eat.
seems much less powerful...
