  • The Quest To Be 1000 LBS!!!?

I was just reading an article about a woman who wants to weigh 1000 pounds.

    Just the facts!
    • A New Jersey woman who currently weighs 602 pounds has actually set a goal for herself to weigh 1000 Pounds.
    • She employs herself  by appearing on a website that is designed to  where men pay to watch videos of her gorging on food and showing off her extra weight in a bikini.
    • She cannot walk more that 20 ft and uses a scooter to get around for grocery shopping
    • Her grocery bill is around $750 a week
    • Her daily calorie intake is around 12,000 calories a day nearly 5 times  more than the recommended daily calories for a woman her age.

    Some thoughts to chew on...

The first thought in this whole thing is - personal liberty. Where does one's personal liberty start and looking out for one's personal welfare begin?

It is her own personal liberty to eat anyway she wishes and to become any size she wishes. In the end, her two children will look to her when they ask over her dead body "Why did you do it Mom, why?"  It is her choice. It is her freedom.

But then if we look to the other side of the coin...

More and more this question is going to come up especially when we look at the fact that some people are hellbent on some sort of government health care.  When someone else looks at the bottom line at the cost of our health care we should expect mandatory exercise programs and fat taxes.

We should fully expect the calorie Gestapo if we buy in to this government health care option.

Even without the government option, do we really believe that this woman will be able to afford all the medical treatment that she will need in the future or is that the dividing line as long as she does not gouge from the taxpayers' pockets it's okay but when she starts she has a new boss concerning her health?

But where does the protection of the welfare of another come in?

We already have mandatory 24-hour or even a couple of days custody of people who may potentially harm themselves or others but where does the harming of ones self come in with health?

Her welfare is at stake as the article pointed out there are many complications that come into play when you are so big. She will eventually kill herself by eating the way she is, and what are we to do as she loads the pistol to kill herself, just stand by and watch (for some literally).

What about her children? In most cases an obese parent results in an obese child. So, the mother is training her children to be like her maybe not in words but especially by example.

So it one of those things where is the line between personal liberty and protection of one's personal welfare?

    What are your thoughts?
