Men and Women Weren't Created Equal...
When was the last time you heard a guy go "Dude, I'm seriously craving for some chocolate cake right now."? Or say to his buddy "I’m feeling kind of down tonight; want to get a sundae with me?” You’d be scratching your head off trying to recall but you probably won’t come up with that one instance.
On the other hand, ask a girl what food she craves for and without hesitation, she’ll offer you a list!
I, as a woman get horrible, horrible random food cravings. Most of the time I crave for cake and sweet stuff. Sometimes, I want a cheeseburger, with fries. Sometimes, even late at night, I'd crave for pizza (oh that piece of yummy mozzarella laden heaven- thank you Italians!) - So bad – I tried ignoring the craving, it wouldn't go away. For the next days, I couldn’t stop thinking of that pizza until I finally gave in. Then there was one time I craved for cashew nuts and it was like I can actually smell it being roasted-talk about a vivid imagination!
There could be several reasons for food cravings. Yes, even guys have them, except when it comes to food cravings, women are the weaker sex. (For once) men have the greater strength to curb their impulses (why can’t it be same for keeping their pants on?). The other major difference is when guys do crave, they tend to reach out for protein rich foods (that are actually used in muscle building and repair) whereas women are suckers for chocolate, candy bars and carbo-packed, fat inducing, calorie rich foods! Oh sissies!
What are we going to do? Women are genetically and chemically built this way. –and whose brilliant idea was it to made women this way? Screw the female hormones. I tell you, someone was clearly taking sides on this battle!
I’m not finished.
After all that grease and sugar in our mouth, we flip through the latest issue of Cosmo, or turn on the television, we see skinny models and sexy Hollywood stars. Every day the media bombards men and women with pictures of what is ideal, what is beautiful, and what is acceptable. Fat is ugly, fat is unhealthy, a woman must have curves but still remain slender. I get the picture; however that pepperoni pizza is also hovering over my brain and looking damn hotter. I mean, let’s face it; I’ll never be as pretty as that model, Oh dear, that’s quite depressing. Maybe an Oreo would cheer me up! There goes the cycle again. Sucker.
Women (and men), what foods do you usually crave for?
Do you curb or give in to your cravings? How does curbing or giving in to your cravings make you feel afterwards?

I crave for sweet and salty foods a lot. Especially salty.
I do usually want something... along the lines of a burger or something, but I have one very strange craving; occasionally, I'll really want a pickle. Which is funny because I don't even think pickles are all that great [they're not particularily bad either], but every now and then I need to eat one to remind me of this.
I totally agree. My cravings can become obsessive at times, especially when my hormones go crazy. My boyfriend? His sweet tooth can be cured with one cookie. Ugh
i KNOOOOOOOOW!!!
it;s so unfair :{Are you serious? You don't think men get cravings. They just don't talk about them like we do. They go out and get whatever they have a craving for instead of making a public announcement of it. They might say hey I am going to get when they are with their friends and that's an invitation to say bring me some too. They don't get all florid when they want a piece of chocolate. They go get it and eat it.
MOST men don't agonize over the food they eat because they weren't socialized this way and I thank my mom for not teaching me to be that way. So what you don't look like a damned model that is made up, put in perfect lighting, and then airbrushed (and sometimes photoshopped). Put down the pizza and eat something with calcium and protein in it that's actually good for you. Watch how quickly your cravings go away.
Women aren't chemically built different from men to crave foods. We crave foods because our bodies need some nutrient that is in the food item we are craving. Our brain is going to pick a food that it knows we are likely to actually eat. We eat so much of the sweet stuff b/c it contains very little of the vitamin, mineral, or amino-acid that our body needs.
Damn that turned into a big rant so I will stop now before my head explodes.
I crave for sweet and salty food all the time. :/
I usually crave everything. I don't usually give into my cravings, but when I do, it's bad news.
I often crave salty foods like chips and spicy and sour things. If i go overboard on chips then I want a little sweet to balance it. I heard cravings are from when u lack some nutrient. What kind of nutrient could I be craving from salty chips? I tried eating carrot sticks with dip for the same crunchy effect but it doesn't work that well... ?
oh man. you obviously don't hang around stoners. i know a lot of guys who get unhealthy cravings and are very open about it. (not just stoners either, haha)
@Erika_Steele@xanga - totally agree with what you said.
@babymeatball@xanga - How could I forget about guys that are stoners? LOL. They still don't whine as much about what they want and try to guilt their friends into eating it so that they don't "feel bad" alone.
@cc_sweetpea@xanga - chips could be sodium, potassium (or anything else you would get from a potato), possibly iron or niacin (depending on the kind of chip you crave). It won't be immediate. The food needs time to digest.
ok this is bullshit for one reason all man have one temptation that we must face everyday. Bacon.
If we were weak we would be stuffing our faces full of bacon every single second of the day.I have a variety of cravings, but take a look at my userID, and see if you can guess what my #1 craving is.
Men get cravings too... and most of them are relatively vocal about it. "I could soooo go for some wings (or pizza)." They don't talk as much about chocolate and the sweet stuff, but they definitely whine about cravings just as much as I do. Or maybe it's just my husband and his friends. I don't know.
I sometimes curb my cravings, but often I give in to them in moderation or I substitute one thing for another (healthy for something bad).
When I do crave something sweet or salty I drink water then take a walk. That almost always does the trick. Though, I do give in once in a while.
I think there's a difference between giving in to cravins and indulging. I can say "ok I want icecream, but frozen yogurt would be the healtheir choice" and I have some.
Or instead of finishing the whole chocolate bar, I would have a bite or two
oh man. my cravings are powerful. generally whenever i have a craving for something i have to satisfy it or i won't sto pthinking about it
Is it funny at all that I read this while downing some Chipolte Chips with Guac and sipping an Orange Juice?
I was really hungry after work before rehearsal, so I stopped at a gas station. Nothing. I was really jonesing for something else but couldn't think of it until I passed the juice cooler. Good.
Food isle. Nothing.
Drive toward rehearsal.
OOooh! Guacamole!
Thus my story, mostly a tangent. :)
I waitress, and 75% of the time its the men ordering something off the desert menu.
I am man and I crave. Granted, I rarely ever eat because of it or say anything about my cravings and specific cravings (chicken! pizza! even chocolate!) aren't common over just getting random hunger pangs. If there is a specific craving, it stays in my head until I satisfy it, but I can usually keep it in the back of my mind until there's a good time, place (and meal) that I can sate it. Usually, specific cravings are for a specific meal (waffles, gourmet hot dogs, sushi) and only very rarely do they involve dessert. That said, if I see chocolate on a dessert menu and I don't feel full, I almost never pass it up, but I don't think I ever specifically look for it, either.
i usually crave salty foods.
I'm a man and I get constant, rather demented urges to a whole eat pot roast and wash it down with like three bottles of wine, but I only do it once every two or three weeks.
my cravings are evenly split between dessert-y sweet and cheesy/salty.
I love sweets.
I think men are more into spicy stuff.
