  • Best Hamburger Toppers Competition

There are a lot of hamburger toppers out there.  From simple to gourmet toppers, people put just about anything on top of a burger.  A trip to a burger place nowadays can be a confusing event.  If you are indecisive about your topper, perhaps this list below will give you a plan of elimination the next time you are faced with a burger-topper dilemma.

In this post, I will not be considering conventional toppers such as ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes or pickles nor will I consider gourmet toppers because things will just get out of hand.

    American Cheese
This all-American topper is a favorite.  The "cheese" in cheeseburger is American cheese.  It may be considered just too plain for some but if you like cheese and burger, you can't go wrong with this topper.

    Blue Cheese
Blue cheese is a little variation from the original cheeseburger.  The tangy-ness of the blue cheese provides a great kick.  Not to mention, a little blue cheese can go a very long way so it isn't like you have to slather it on to find flavor.  There are many people out there who have a strong dislike for blue cheese though.

    Bacon
If you are in search for a heart attack, look no further.  Whoever decided combing cow and pig into the same meal was definitely addicted to fatty proteins.  Even so, if you are an omnivore (who enjoys more than just chicken and fish), it is hard to resist the temptation this toppers puts out.

    Caramelized Onions
The word "caramelized" is overplayed, however, if you are going to caramelize anything, it better be onions.  Caramelized onions have that awesome onion flavor but sweeter, which mean it pairs quite well with a fatty, salty hunk of meat.

    Mushrooms
Mushrooms, as long as they aren't swimming in gravy, can tend to be on the healthier end of the burger topper category.  Mushrooms have a meaty texture and mild flavor.  It wouldn't overwhelm the flavor of the beef, which is good unless you are using cheap meat.

Which topper won?  Are there other toppers that should have been considered?
