I Can't Live Without Rice!
I suppose technically I could survive without rice, but I would really hate to give it up. Back when I was into trying different diets, I always failed at the ones that required giving up carbs. I can’t even give up refined carbs. I need white rice, and I’m okay with admitting that, even if it means I’m living up to an Asian stereotype. The truth is I come from a rice loving Filipino family that made sure to send me off to college with my own mini electric rice cooker.
I grew up eating it in every meal, and even a lot of our deserts have rice in their recipes. I don’t eat rice quite this much nowadays, but I wouldn’t mind. Luckily, I’m married to a man who loves it, too (even though he’s not Asian).
I notice when other people eat rice at restaurants, it serves only as a side item. In my family however, one’s plate consists of at least half (but usually more) of the meal. The meat/vegetables are just there to accompany the rice, or as my dad says, “The rice is the main part of the meal; the meat just gives it flavor.”
I told my parents I knew a Filipino who was giving up rice for lent. My dad said, “Oh that’s easy. That’s what, a week?” I told them no, that it was forty days. My mother was aghast. She said she could not do it. She had to have rice at every meal.
In many countries of the world, rice is 70% of the diet. I enjoy eating it, and I like it because it’s filling and versatile. It can be eaten with so many different foods. Plus it’s cheap and easy to cook.
We buy the 20 pound bag.
Is there one food that you just couldn’t live without?

I like rice, but I don't love it. I go back and forth on liking it and being sick of it. I'm more of a pasta person, I can't get sick of pasta. I guess to answer the question though... cheese.
Rice, beans, and bread are some things I need for my basic survival and sanity.
I love rice too! And I'll only eat Jasmine rice. I don't like brown rice, lol.
I don't think there is a food I can't live without... but I do love rice. I agree you can do anything with it.
I like rice with chicken and broccoli.. or with broccoli and cheese... I like Spanish rice... I like rice with salsa, I like rice with soy sauce... I like it buttered with salt... I haven't met a rice based dish or snack that I didn't like..
I'm a huge rice person too. Of course, one of my specialities is vegan Asian (the other being vegan Italian).
Not a fan of Jasmine rice, I'm more into Calrose rice personally.
I LOVE RICEEEEEE.
Jasmine rice smells nice and all, but it's not sticky enough, and it gets really dry the second day. I like the shorter grained stickier rice.
me too i love rice
Basmati rice is my favorite (Rith noddles)...But Jamine will do too! :D
I always feel that I am not Asian enough because I don't like rice,
I only eat it when I am with my family, so probably once or twice a month.Got rice?
I'm not even remotely asian but I couldn't live without rice either!
Pretty much every kind of rice.I love it soooo much and eat it at least once a day!
I love rice--we buy the 20 lb bag, too. I'm a cajun--I've been the cajun stereotype. My wife walks in, and I say, "I've put the rice on. What do you want for supper."
I love rice. My daughter readily eats it, and I've pretty much converted my midwestern wife.
I'm a cajun (and, by extension, my daughter). I've been the stereotype. My wife comes home, and I say, "I've put on the rice. What do you want for supper?"
I just got a rice cooker, and it's the best thing I've ever bought.
I couldn't live without fruit. I love all kinds.
i can't live without rice either! can't imagine how i will survive if i move to europe in the future.. the thought of it alone sends chills down my spine...
me either! rice, chicken, and cereal is all i ever eat!
I love jasmine rice! It's hard for me to limit my intake of rice :I It is essential to my life.
Haha this totally made me laugh because we are in the same boat! My two best friends are Chinese (and I'm Filipino) and they are so sick of rice because they've had it their whole lives! They prefer noodles over rice any day. But I am SO addicted and I've had it my whole life, too! And, like you, I can only have white rice---I detest brown rice. And I probably eat twice a normal person's serving. What's the Tagalog word I'm looking for when you have the meat or sabaw that goes with your rice? I forget...haha
I like how this became one huge rice discussion instead of everyone talking about the one food they can't live without... unless THAT many people can't live without rice, hahah
Hm... I'm not sure if I couldn't live without a food, but this is making me rethink my habits of consuming fast/junk food.
I need to start eating more fruits and veggies.
i can't live without rice either.
rice.
yay rice :)
staple for my lifeeeeee!I don't think I would be the person I am today without rice.
my grandma said she doesn't feel full unless she's had rice with her meal.
I know white bread and white rice are both carbs but I feel healthier eating white rice than white bread for some reason
ha! we buy 50 pound bags of rice. i'm dominican. we eat rice with every meal. even a ton of pasta.
