  • The PERFECT Combination of Salty and Sweet: Lindt Chocolate

If there's any kind of combination in the food world I love the most, it's a sweet-salty combination. Add sugar and salt to any food and I'll probably eat it all. I'm always looking for great foods that show off this combination, and now I think I've found my favorite source: Lindt's "Touch of Sea Salt" Chocolate.

This chocolate bar is one of the most complex candies I have ever tasted in my life. At first, this bar tastes like a simple piece of dark chocolate. There's a sort of blandness at the initial bite that made me wonder what the hype was all about. Seconds later, I had a hint of tart bitterness - but not the kind that is normally found in dark chocolate. It wasn't a tartness that was accompanies really dark chocolate, but instead a tartness that is found on your spice rack. Another few seconds into chewing, and the sea salt flavor comes out. And let me tell you, if you are a fan of the sweet-salt combination, it's like angels landed on your taste buds.

This candy triggers all different areas of your tongue, creating a completely sensational flavor. After swallowing the candy, it's almost as if the flavors had reversed. What was once tasted - a dark, thorough chocolatey flavor - seems to be just a hint now, and the height of the sea salt flavor washes over. (But don't worry, it isn't so salty that you'll feel dehydrated or thirsty. It's almost like a dusting of sea salt.)

For a candy that has no melty-center, no crackling in its bite and no layers of different candies covered in chocolate, the flavor was absolutely incredible. Simple and yet complex all in one bite. I recommend this candy to ANYONE who digs the salty-sweet combination.

What other foods are examples of sweet and salty? Do you like this combination, or do you have a different favorite?

    • About Me: While I tried to stay in college for as long as I possibly could, I picked up a Psychology minor, forcing myself to learn a little about mental health. What I didn't know was how closely linked mental and physical health, are to each other. Now that I've graduated, I've enjoyed writing about all different aspects of health for Healthkicker. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that there's no way to live healthy unless you're happy, too. I'm hoping to be able to give as much insight as I can, while picking up a few tips from everyone along the way!
If there was one drink I could not live with, it'd be WATER. While I do thrive off of energy drinks, I drink about 15 glasses of water a day. As far as my favorite foods go, I'll eat anything with cheese, chicken, and asparagus. Also, ANY kind of fruit!
