The PERFECT Combination of Salty and Sweet: Lindt Chocolate
If there's any kind of combination in the food world I love the most, it's a sweet-salty combination. Add sugar and salt to any food and I'll probably eat it all. I'm always looking for great foods that show off this combination, and now I think I've found my favorite source: Lindt's "Touch of Sea Salt" Chocolate.
This chocolate bar is one of the most complex candies I have ever tasted in my life. At first, this bar tastes like a simple piece of dark chocolate. There's a sort of blandness at the initial bite that made me wonder what the hype was all about. Seconds later, I had a hint of tart bitterness - but not the kind that is normally found in dark chocolate. It wasn't a tartness that was accompanies really dark chocolate, but instead a tartness that is found on your spice rack. Another few seconds into chewing, and the sea salt flavor comes out. And let me tell you, if you are a fan of the sweet-salt combination, it's like angels landed on your taste buds. This candy triggers all different areas of your tongue, creating a completely sensational flavor. After swallowing the candy, it's almost as if the flavors had reversed. What was once tasted - a dark, thorough chocolatey flavor - seems to be just a hint now, and the height of the sea salt flavor washes over. (But don't worry, it isn't so salty that you'll feel dehydrated or thirsty. It's almost like a dusting of sea salt.)For a candy that has no melty-center, no crackling in its bite and no layers of different candies covered in chocolate, the flavor was absolutely incredible. Simple and yet complex all in one bite. I recommend this candy to ANYONE who digs the salty-sweet combination. What other foods are examples of sweet and salty? Do you like this combination, or do you have a different favorite?

A touch of sea salt?? Um that's interesting..
I want! Have you ever tried the pepper one? I'm not a fan, but it's worth trying once.
@isingstupidsongs@xanga - ever tried Fleur De Sel on a homemade peanut butter cup? Not Reese's. It's awesome
@DeathzDezign@xanga - Hmm I guess I should try that then :]
@isingstupidsongs@xanga - its actually quite simple, and you dont have to make it from scratch per se. Just get chocolate pie crust, heat it up and mold it into a smaller cup. Add some extra virgin olive oil to pre-made peanut butter to give it a creamier texture. Temper some bittersweet chocolate. Pipe in the peanut butter into the crust, and then cover it all with the tempered chocolate, add fleur de sel.
I loveee Lindt chocolate. <3
Chocolate with a touch of sea salt sounds a little odd, but kinda yummy, too.
I hate super sweet chocolate.. cant wait to try this one out!
chocolate covered potato chips are good.
Id prolly need a pretzel to go with it
Flipz(chocolate covered pretzels)
Interesting! I think I like chocolate just sweet though.
Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby ice cream. Pretzels, peanut butter, chocolate and ice cream. YUM.
This sounds amazing. I might be making a trip to the Lindt store in the very near future.
I absolutely LOVE Lindt chocolates, so I may have to try this. :)
My mouth watered from reading this, haha, I will most definitely have to try it. :]
I love Lindt chocolate bars, the dark chocolate ones. And I like sweet/salty, but when my husband brought me one of these a few months ago...I looked cockeyed at it..then I tasted it...WOW.
if I didn't know it was salt that was making the difference, I wouldn't have been able to put my finger on the flavor. I mean, to me...it definitely does not taste like "salty" chocolate. It's just a different wonderful taste experience, chocolate with a fresh turn.
I like it very very much, and along with their 90% bar, is my favorite of the Lindt Excellence bars.
did you ever try bacon and chocolate? it's salty and sweet.
mmm cupcakes with caramel frosting sprinkled with sea salt
I saw this before at the store, but questioned the pairing of salt with chocolate. I was imagining a strong salt taste, but if its gentle it just might go well! Will try it :]
hmm. ill try this. i love the sweet and salty combination
