It's that time of year again, when the guilty pleasure Shamrock Shake is back! I don't know what it is about this shake, but it's so good and I always look forward to slurping up that green, minty goodness. I usually don't enjoy McDonald's shakes, but this one knows how to hit the spot.
Unfortunately in order to be aware of it's return I read this article from
SeriousEats about how disappointing they are this year! They apparently serve it with whipped cream and a cherry and it has an overwhelming taste of vanilla. Where's the mint? It is also served in a clear plastic cup. I am very upset to hear this, but I am still going to have to judge it for myself.
I also read that it could only be specific establishments that are serving the shakes this way. A few have reported it being served in the good'ol paper cup and tasting as good as ever.

Yah I think it probably depends, most McDonalds are privately owned establishments... things like that slip by. But arent shamrock shakes just Mint chooc chip milk shakes without the chocolate???
Never heard of this..but I'm gonna have to look for it and try it..I mean it's green :D
No, I don't like McDonalds milkshakes and especially not the nasty shamrock shakes. ew. and the whipped cream just makes it look even more fattening.. wonderful. oh, and if you don't like the whipped cream just say: "Hold the whip please". It's really not that hard... especially since it's mcdonalds.
I've never had one, but I definitely want to try it!
I tried to order one, but their shake machine wasn't working :(
used to love em.
haven't had one in a loong time
maybe i should go get one =]
Perhaps they are waiting until actual St. Patty's day to serve them green? I'll have to try it next time I am out. Me loves Shamrock Shakes!!
I have, one time so far, at one establishment. It tasted just as good as last year.
I haven't taste it yet.
i actually had one this morning and while it looked the same, i was totally disappointed! i wasn't sure if it's because my eating has changed a lot in the past year and i don't eat junk, but i only had a few sips and threw it out. it tasted strange - too strong and yet not very minty. They used to be my favorite once a year treat, and now i'm kinda bummed.
@FallingSafely@xanga - FYI, mcdonald's are franchised, but they are in no way privately owned, nor do they have a say in what is served or how - they are held to strict corporate standards. Read Fast Food Nation if you want to know more.
The one I had over here in NH was the classic, green, minty shake served in a paper cup. No cherries or whipped cream. It was perfect!
I don't like it.
i went in yesterday and they said they didn't have one. for shame.
ew, theyre so nasty this year
@theonlytimes@xanga - Yah they're franchised, but they're privately owned essentially. They have to follow certain standards and recipes and all that, but with things like shamrock shakes that only come out once a year, and what kind of cup they put it in, things get a little blurred. All franchised places are like this with speciality drinks. They never all taste exactly the same, because they aren't always made.
My boyfriend got one a few days ago. I had a sip...and they're not so great in my opinion. However, both he and my brother LOOOOOOVE them. I guess I'm just not a vanilla/mint person. However, I did like the cherry on top :o)
Ummm, yum!
I hope the one's around me aren't changing it.
When my mom was in HS, she worked at a mcdonald's and the manager was allergic to mint. He made his employees use green food coloring and he didn't even add any mint, yet he sold them as Shamrock shakes. I wonder if the higher ups knew? -_-
I've never had one. Might need to check it out lol.
I just had my first one the other day, and I liked it a lot! I love mint and chocolate chip mint ice cream is my favorite kind, so this was such a cool treat for me. I do wish that I had gotten a smaller size (I had a small)... the shake is so thick that I couldn't finish it.
Yes. I am so ready for one.
The mcdonalds near work has the sign on the marquee and drive through lane, but if you order one, you are told they're not in stock until March 1. Bastids!
I love this time of year if only because of Shamrock Shakes. They serve them the regular way here, no fancy stuff.
i've never tried it but i want to
Yuck
Never tried it but i want to
