  • Mile-High Dining

Today, I happened to notice an e-mail from Continental Airlines promoting their monthly flight specials. Being me, I scanned it, wondering if I was going to see any announcement on a new in-flight menu that might, you know, not suck. I know this isn't exactly a novel observation, we all know airplane food is awful, but isn't it strange that it's consistently awful? There are several things I can count on when boarding a plane: scratchy blankets, that stale smell, and the same, shrink-wrapped meals.

Yes, I sound like a cranky old man right now. But seriously, back in the day, when flying was considered a more elegant form of travel, people had it good. Menus often included lobster and caviar...in coach. Whereas I get the same vegetarian/vegan meal on every single flight I'm on: quinoa salad and Indian food...it doesn't sound too bad but believe me...it gets old. So what are we to do? Well, we could pack our own lunch.

What do you do on long flights? What has been your worst airplane meal?
