I am a traditional girl when it comes to waffles, french toast, and pancakes. Syrup is the way to go. I also have a problem with the real natural syrup, I tend to think it is too sweet. I don't ever buy it because it's so expensive and I usually end up not liking it. It would be nice to experiment and try different ones until I found one that I liked, but I don't have that kind of money.
Does anyone know of any natural syrup that isn't really sweet? I read a lot of food and health blogs and many of the bloggers tend to put fruit and yogurt on their pancakes or waffles and it always looks delicious. Every time I say I am going to try this, I always fall right back into the good'ol fake syrup and butter. I also like to add peanut butter to my pancakes and then drizzle syrup over that.
One weird combination that I absolutely love is to put a slice of cheese in between a pancake or a piece of french toast. I learned this from my dad when I was little. It may sound gross, but I love it! It's good to do when there is a leftover pancake. Just a slice of cheese, I usually use American or Cheddar and one pancake folded over. It's as simple as that, a pancake and cheese sandwich. That will always be a good memory of mine.
Are you a traditional person like me? What's your favorite topping for these types of breakfasts?

MAPLE SYRUP.
OOHHHHHH GOOOOOOOOOOD.
anyone ever try cream cheese on pancakes? you should.
it depends on what's in the house and what i'm feeling like. if we have it in the house, i like fruits and whipped cream and chocolate on them. if we don't, just butter, syrup and powdered sugar will do. and if i want something really disgusting i slather them in butter, coat them in sugar, then roll them up and eat them like burritos.
Yum! Cheese on pancakes seems like a tasty idea, I'll try that one. I used to put syrup on my pancakes, then I saw how much sugar it has. Plus it has high fructose corn syrup which is bad for you. I like to cut pieces of sliced apples into my pancake mix and top it with steamed slices of cinnamon apples.
I like to add bananas as well and a little bit of fruit jam. I need to think of more ways to liven up my pancakes.
I like syrup, but on waffles I like this strawberry preserve stuff, or honey, I like caramel on my french toast.
Just syrup.
I effin love waffles and pan cakes. :)One of my friends eats her pan cakes with peanut butter. 0_o
There's a place here in Hawai'i that does a Macadamia Nut Cream sauce on their pancakes. It's wonderful. I've replicated it as a Macadamia Nut based Creme Anglaise.
Syrup!!
isn't maple syrup naturally not that sweet? idk, maybe just cuz i'm a cake addict.
i also like ice cream on pancakes or waffles or belgian waffles

blueberry syruppppReal maple syrup, I only use fake if I have no other choice for it. I also love peanut butter on my pancakes, though I have never tried both at the same time. (gonna have to now) The cheese on pancakes sounds good.
Been wanting to make pancakes for a few days now! Im going to put ice cream with it, and syrup of course. *yum* im a big fan of sweet stuff.
I usually have mine with butter and very little syrup. I hate when it's doused in syrup.
@arenadi@xanga - I went to Oahu a couple years back, and there was this small pancake house (i think) that had the BEST macadamia nut pancakes I've ever had. Actually, just the best pancakes I've ever had in general.
@milkywaynight@xanga - almost everything is "bad" for you
honey and butter tastes good. plus its a lot healthier. u can also mess around with spices too.. a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon tastes yummy.. i also sometimes like to make a butter sauce where i cook small tiny apple chunks in some brown sugar butter and cinnamon and then pour that whole thing on my pancakes.. bananas works great that way too.. i love maple syrup though..
it has to be real maple syrup. and frozen blueberries
MAWR PANCAKES
some peanut butter and maple syrup and im in heaven! :)
I am not a fan of fruit or syrup so i usually eat my pancakes plain, it's really f'ing good though!
