  • Superbowl Cocktails: Something To Do While You're Not Caring About Football

I know nothing about football and I never care to learn. That doesn't mean that I, or other people like me, should be left out of all the excitement brewing today! For too long have my people (people apathetic about football) been left lonely and cold during the nationwide fervor, and to overcompensate for this, we'll often be the first person on the scene of a Superbowl party, inquiring about this team or that team, acting like we didn't care all season but *now* we want to know what's going on...

This is how the Superbowl party has become a national holiday, of sorts, for my people (football hating partyers). The truth is-we eventually realized-we don't have to front. We love drinking and eating. We hate football. We can love Superbowl parties, without loving the Superbowl. They are the one occasion where binge drinking marries binge eating in a sensational fury of excitement! We too can enjoy the festivities-probably even more than anyone else since we have no emotional ties to whatever is happening!

Although, we *should* try to make ourselves useful since we're not contributing to the cheering or jeering or whatnot.

So: while all other eyes are in pinned to that HDTV, here are some sweet cocktails to keep you busy while you're smirking to yourself about how the Superbowl could probably be the cause of a condition called the Supermunchies.

    For the Colts "fan":

Blue StampedeBlue Stampede Super Bowl Cocktail
    1 1/2 ounces Herradura Blanco
    2 ounces fresh lime juice
    1 ounce agave nectar
    1/2 ounce Blue Curacao

Pour into cocktail shaker filled with ice. Strain into rocks glass. You can make a bigger batch by multiplying all ingredients by 8 and combining in a punch bowl.

    Colt 45
    1 oz gin
    2 oz Jagermeister

Similar to Red Bull and vodka, but with gin and a hit of Jagermeister too. Add gin and Jagermeister in a highball glass with ice. Top off with Red Bull.

    Blue Cosmo
    1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
    2 oz Absolut Citron vodka
    1/2 oz grapefruit juice
    1/2 oz sugar syrup

A colorful spin on the cranberry martini: Add vodka,  Blue Curacao liqueur, grapefruit juice,  and sugar syrup in a shaker with ice. Shake and pour into martini glass. Garnish with 1 maraschino cherry.

    Blue Lagoon:
    1 oz vodka
    1 oz Blue Curacao
    3 ok lemonade

Mix vodka, Blue Curacao liqueur,  and lemonade in a cocktail shaker. Mix and pour over crushed ice.

For the Saints "fan" (which includes me-my heart will forever be in NOLA):

    Who Dat Highball
    1 oz. apple-lemon syrup
    2 oz. cognac
    club soda

Fill highball glass with ice. Pour in cognac and syrup. Top off with club soda and garnish with a lemon wheel.

    Apple-Lemon Syrup
    1 1/2 cups water
1 apple–cored, peeled and cut into pieces
zest of half a lemon (just the peel, no white pith)
    3/4 sugar
    1/2 oz. of vodka

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and boil. Strain out solids and pour the syrup into a container. Cool syrup and refrigerate. To make syrup last longer, add vodka after. (Not only does this make up to 10 cocktails-it also is remniscant of my former fave cocktail!)

    Hurricane
    2 oz light rum
    2 oz dark rum
    2 oz passion fruit juice
    1 oz orange juice
    1/2 lime
    1 Tbsp simple syrup
    1 Tbsp grenadine

Add light rum, dark rum, passion fruit juice, orange juice, juice of a half a lime, simple syrup and grenadine in a shaker and shake well. Strain into a tall glass and garnish with an orange slice.

    Sazerac
    2 oz. Rye Whiskey
    1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
    5 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
    2 dash Angostura Bitters
    1/4 oz. Herbsaint or Pernod
    1 Lemon twist

Fill cocktail shaker with ice and add rye whiskey, simple syrup, Peychaud’s and Angostura bitters. Stir. Pour Herbsaint or Prenod in glass and swirl to coat inside of glass. Pour in contents of shaker and add lemon twist as garnish.
