  • Too Many Iron Chefs: Reality TV on the Food Network

I have an almost shameful love for the Food Network. So shameful, in fact, that I was outraged when Bravo started stealing their thunder with "Top Chef." But I was not prepared for Food Network's response to Bravo: creating as many cooking reality shows as they possible could! Ahh!

Maybe it's just that I don't consider reality TV that exciting, but for some reason, Food Network reality shows almost drive me away from the television (keyword: *almost.*-it's still about food, therefore I will still watch it). I realize that most programs on the channel are meant to simulate reality, but really, they demand suspension of belief (whose kitchen is that clean?!). And honestly, when you have about five spin-offs of "Iron Chef," that should be a sign that you are probably lacking in the creative programming department.

Though I must say, "Chopped" is a great show. I get the biggest kick out of seeing chefs try to make a meal out of macaroni & cheese, cola and bacon, and it is just as rich to see the judges actually expect something magnificent...or even edible. They should thank their lucky stars that the chefs are fairly creative because if I was up there they would be getting mac and cheese with crumbled bacon on top and a large, icy cold glass of Coca-Cola.

All Food Network fanatics out there: what are your favorite cooking reality shows? Why do you think are they so appealing?
