  • Aphrodisiacs For Vegans Looking For V-Day Love

Along with being sick of adverts for gawdy jewelry, overpriced roses and romantic getaways, I'm also sick of "oysters" being the most talked-about food in relation to our nations day of love.

If you, like me, are looking for a less carnivorous way to seduce your Valentinian conquest this year, I've compiled a comprehensive list of foods sure to dupe him/her into loving you in no time!

    Almonds
An ancient symbol of fertility, the scent of the almond is said to induce passion in females. So incorporate almonds, almond extract, or almond paste (marzipan) into whatever you're throwing together this V-Day and get ready to have that special lady in your life hot and bothered.

    Asparagus
High in vitamin E, asparagus increases blood and oxygen flow to the genitals and contains potassium which is important for healthy sex hormone production-making this veggie a short and long term aphrodisiac. Its phallic shape can also assist in drawing the eye and mind to the business right away. For maximum potency, one should eat asparagus at least three days in a row.

    Bananas
Another nature made phallic shaped fruit, they are also said to contain chemicals that can lift your mood and make you more confident. Bananas are also unrelentingly high in potassium which aids in sex hormone production and boosts energy. I would suggest cutting them into pieces and serving them with melted chocolate.

    Raspberries and Strawberries
Added to the fruit with chocolate fondue we discussed earlier, these berries be the defining moment in the evening when the mode turns from dinnertime small-taking to sensual hand-feeding.

    Chili Peppers
The term "spice things up" didn't come from nowhere-adding spicy chili peppers to your dishes gets your heart pumping and produces neuro-chemicals known as endorphins, which make you happier-but you MUST handle them with care, severely burned eyes or lungs from inhalation will definitely kill the mood.

    Chocolate
The "nourishment of the Gods"-as described by the Aztecs-contains chemicals which effect neurotransmitters in the brain with theobromine (most commonly found in caffeine). It also contains more antioxidant (cancer preventing enzymes) than red wine. I've heard the trick is combining the two.

    Ginger
Ginger in all its forms is a stimulant to the circulatory system, as long as your arteries aren't clogged-which they aren't, because you're still young-but for those V-Days down the road you may want to consider an overall health overhaul. Just sayin'.

    Pumpkin
Neurological research has shown that the scent of pumpkin pie is a sexual stimulant for both men and women, increasing male penile blood flow by 40 percent! Pumpkin seeds are also one of the best vegetarian sources of zinc, which for men is crucial for potency and in preventing prostate problems. I'd be fine with a triple grande soy Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks, but if you want to bake me a whole pie, I guess I can't stop you.

    Pineapple
This tropical treat has historically been used as a homeopathic treatment for impotence. Your hot and heavy night of passion can easily take flight from this spiky fruit dunked in some chocolate, served in slices by itself, or speared on top of a fruity rum concoction.

    Coffee
Caffeine is a well-know stimulant but, like other things, it becomes a depressant in excess. Small amounts of rich, dark coffee stimulate both the body and the mind in ways that might make you redefine the term "all nighter" on our nations day of love.

    Alcohol
I would write more but Captain Obvious won't give up the copyrights on this subject.
