I love different types of food from other cultures. My favorites are Indian and Thai, I can never get enough of them. I'm not that familiar with French food, but it's something I would like to try. I can't help but always order the same dishes whenever I go out. I especially feel that it's important to order something that you are familiar with when trying a new restaurant.
My favorite Indian dish is Chicken Tikka Masala and it's what I always order. Since being in NYC I have only eaten Indian food once and it was from a place called Seva, here in Astoria. Unfortunately I was not that impressed. There was nothing great about my food, the chicken was dry, it wasn't spicy at all even though I had asked for it to be medium. Since I wasn't very happy with this place I don't see myself going back anytime soon. Does anyone know of any great Indian restaurants in Astoria or in New York city in general?
I've only recently discovered my favorite Thai dish and that is; Red Curry. It's fantastic. I also like Pad Thai, which is a huge staple when it come to Thai food. If you don't have a good Pad Thai then your out of the running. Red Curry generally has bamboo shoots in the mix and this is what makes it so delicious. I've only tried one Thai restaurant also since being here and it's called Poodam's, which is also here in Astoria. I would probably give this place 3 out of 5 stars if I had to rate it. Their Red Curry is really great, but their Pad Thai isn't. I suppose I can not judge it fully because the Pad Thai review is based on what my fiance had to say. I would say it's a lot different than any other place and I believe he described it as tangy.
So, for a change, I am asking you guys. Where are the best Indian and Thai restaurants? Are they worth traveling for?
What are your favorite ethnic foods? Do you have a dish that you have to order every time?

I love all sorts of exotic food, I can't choose a favorite kind or dish!
Mmmm, pad thai....drool! As far as Thai goes I'm a sucker for yellow curry. Oooh, and sticky rice with peanut sauce, yum! Fresh coconut juice seems to be a Thai thing too, and that' delicious.
There are so many fantastic restaurants here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The population is so diverse that you can find at least a handful of restaurants that serve even the most "exotic" of foods. I dunno what I'd label a favorite, but Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese are all up there!
being indian, i've had enough indian food in nyc to enjoy myself. personally, i think jackson diner in jackson heights, queens is good, and on lexington ave in manhattan there are some nice ones. dhaba, and the indochinese one i can't remember the name of. thai food is also amazing!
i love thai food! there's so many thai restaurants in hells kitchen where i live. i usually order curry puffs for appetizer and pad see ew for my entree.
thai food ! :)
i love anything with lots of crisp veggies an cashews as long as it's not hot. mrrr
I love indian too! Tikka is also my favorite dish and if you're looking for a place to try in NYC, go to Bricklane Curry on 2nd ave. If you google that name, it'll take you to their website.
French food is good too depending on what you get. Some dishes are a little funky though.Thai iced tea.. it is practically the nectar of the gods. And pad thai is amazing too.
I love all types of dishes, from all types of ethnicities. Of course I haven't tried all yet lol, but I'm certainly working on it!
French food is delicious!!! Especially when it's in France, lol (which I'm lucky enough to have experienced it).
There are only a few types of food (from around the world) I am not a big fan of, but I still would eat it.
Finding Indian food in NYC, i would say the place to find it probably is around the Jackson Heights area. Now where exactly it is...I dunno. I just visit my family in NYC, and anything beyond long island is beyond me. I just know thats where the indian hub is. Kind of like the "Devon" of chicago if you've ever been.
Thai over Indian for me. I like calzones & pizzas for Italian food. I also like maki rolls for Japanese. E-Fun for Chinese.
I love a good butter chicken!
mmm... curry sounds good right now
Pad Thai. oh my gosh. I want it now.
@fallingfallingfallen@xanga - agreeeeed
I prefer Indian over Thai, although I like them both. My favorite Indian dishes are khadai paneer, chana masala and cut mirch. As for Thai food, I love pra ram long song with tofu.
if you like Indian, go to Santoor in the Glen Oaks shopping center (by Little Neck Pkwy) on Union Turnpike. AMAZING!!! it's the best Indian food I've had outside of someone's home cooking...their paneers are especially good. i end up getting the palak paneer a lot <3
i love the Thai coconut chicken soup, spicy basil flat noodles, and tofu with plum sauce/peanut bits but i can't remember their names :X there was a really good Thai place where I was an undergrad, but i haven't found a replacement where i live now. red curry restaurant is okay, not really up to snuff for me : (
Butter chicken or chicken korma :)
I love both Thai and Indian dishes. Both contain such amazing blends of flavors, aromas, and textures. Fortunately the South Bend/Mishawaka, IN area has a lot of great ethnic restaurants. Korean and Vietnamese dishes are wonderful as well. There used to be a Vietnamese restaurant in Fort Wayne, IN, that served the most fantastic barbequed quail. I only wish I knew where to get some again.
Sripraphai in woodside is the best of the best when it comes to authentic thai food, in my opinion. I make the travel from westchester county to there if i don't want to cook and am really craving thai food. it's one of the only places i can say there are actually more thai people than americans.

i love the spicy peanut butter noodle. sorry but idk the real english name for that :(
Thai positively gives me foodgasms! *LOL* My favorite dish is also red curry with chicken and veggies! YUM! I live in central Pennsylvania, so I can't guaruntee that it's the best location for Thai, but we go to Bangkok Wok. I recently got into sushi, but I may be a wishy-washy sushi eater since I only eat the veggie ones and the ones with the cooked fish. My favorite place for this is Ginger & Spice. Great! Now I'm hungry...
