  • Boiled Ginger Lemon Coke: Keeps the Doctor Away

When I was young, my mom would always boil coke, lemon, and ginger together and serve it to me when I get sick.  I haven't had boiled coke in years, but today in the midst of my fever, I remembered this old wives' remedy and decided to make it again to try to clear my sinuses.

I'm not sure how it works medicinally, but this delicious concoction did wonders. After my first few sips of hot boiled coke, my head cleared out and I was starting to feel better.

From what I recall, this remedy is most commonly used in Hong Kong (where my parents are from) and you can order hot coke from a lot of street cafes.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 can of coke
    • 2-3 slices of ginger
    • 4 slices of lemon

Directions: Pour everything into a pot and simmer for 8 - 10 minutes. You make choose to squeeze lemon juice instead of adding the lemon slices directly into the pot because the skin can be bitter if they sit in the mixture for too long. Or you can place lemon slices in the cup then pour the hot coke over it. I usually eat the ginger soaked in coke too, but that's up to you.

    Enjoy!

Has anybody else tried this remedy?
