  • Recipe: Korean Style Spicy Penne

    Sorry for my lack of recipe posts recently, it's not that I'm not cooking or on a diet and in fact, I've been a very dutiful wife, cooking lots of yummy food for the wild boar. Just that I have been cooking lots of stuff I crave for which are mostly old recipes that I have posted.

    I had my mind set on Jajangmyeon - Noodles in Black Bean Sauce earlier this week, but found out I had no black bean sauce after stir frying the minced meat. I stood in front of the fridge in awe starring at where the black bean sauce was supposed to be for quite awhile. I was so disappointed I just took whatever sauces were around. No jajangmyeon but spicy penne. Well at least I had my Korean noodle fix and it was very tasty.
    Ingredients: serves 3-4
    • 250g penne
    • 1 onion - diced
    • 500g minced pork
    • 1 tbs gochujang
    • 1 tbs soy bean paste
    • 1 tbs tomato concentrate
    • 1/3 cup water
    • Light soy sauce
    • Sugar

    Directions:
    • Heat up a bit of oil in a pan.
    • Saute onions until soft.
    • Add minced pork, stir fry until browned and dry.
    • Mix in gochujang, soy bean paste, tomato concentrate and water.
    • Stir fry until slightly dry.
    • Cook penne in a large pot of boiling water according to the pasta packaging instructions. Drain.
    • Add cooked penne to spicy meat sauce. Add a bit of water if too dry and hard to mix.
    • Add light soy sauce and sugar to taste.
