Fresh Ideas: Espresso Wand Scrambled Eggs
This is a guest post from Ambitious Delicious(ness).
Who would have ever guessed that you could make anything else with the milk frother from your espresso machine?
I wish I could take credit for this marvelous idea but I can’t. I came across a post on Amateur Gourmet last week and decided to give it a try. Apparently, restaurants like Gottino make their eggs this way!
Now, if you’ve ever worked with a steam wand before, it gets very steamy (duh). I had some trouble taking pictures, as I ended up with a bunch of fogged up photos. You will need: two eggs, dash of salt and pepper, 1/2 a tablespoon of butter, a spoon, and a mug to steam your eggs in.

I threw cracked two eggs into a mug with salt and butter, then off it went into the steamer. Be sure to use a cup that is about the length of your steam wand. (Otherwise, the wand won’t reach, and your eggs won’t get cooked). I used a long cup in the beginning, and had to quickly switch over to another mug. I grabbed the nearest mug, which happens to say “let it snow.” Yes, it’s Christmas all year around at my place. Don’t judge.
It took about 5 minutes of constant steaming and stirring around. I quickly sauteed some shallots and leftover bell peppers to go with a piece of whole wheat toast.
The end result? The fluffiest scrambled eggs, with just the right amount of pillowy goodness! Awesome!

That's very innovative!
this I will never do, not even because I am vegan but because cleaning out a steam wand is hard enough as it is and they can get super nasty with molds even just using milk. I don't want any weird stuff living in my delicious soy london fog.
When I worked at a coffee shop I had dreams about how disgusting those things were when i would clean them, and we cleaned them everyday a few times.
use milk frother from an espresso machine to froth the egg?? cool.
That's clever. I don't have an espresso machine though, so I guess I'll keep making my eggs the usual way.
Great idea!
@karmavore - I've never worked at a coffee shop, but that's the first thing I thought of.
I think it's an interesting concept, but the potential for cross-contamination just scares me. Aaaannnnd, I don't have an espresso machine, so it's out of the question. But similar to Alton Brown, I'm NOT a fan of uni-taskers, so finding new uses for things you already own is generally a plus in my book!
that's very creative.. however i don't have an espresso machine :(
@ZepBlueEyedGirl@xanga - @karmavore - I totally understand that cross-contamination is a concern! Believe me when I say that if my steam wand didn't detach completely from my espresso machine, I wouldn't have done this.
For those of you who have an espresso machine, this is TOTALLY worth a shot. The eggs are AMAZING. :)
