  • Friday Fun: Share Your Embarassing Thanksgiving Moments

Above all, Thanksgiving is a time for coming together, a time to reunite with our family and be thankful for what we have. Yet as most anyone can tell you, it can also be a prime opportunity for faux pas.

Whenever you cobble together members of an extended family at a single table, some ... interesting things will be said. An uncle might reveal his penchant for blue humor. A young child might wander over from the kids' table to innocently introduce a private family matter. Family's like a loaded gun, and at Thanksgiving, someone's bound to mess with the safety.

Have you got any embarrassing Thanksgiving moments to share with the group?

Not myself personally, at least nothing I can remember (or dig out from memory suppression) -- but I've attended a Thanksgiving dinner before, where a little girl wandered up to the "adult's" table and asked one of the men something along the lines of "how come your boyfriend isn't here?"

He hadn't come out to his family yet.

    Oops.

I haven't had anything major happen, but last year I got dehydrated, dizzy, and weak, and had to lay down for almost an hour.  But then after I got water I was ok and could eat.  It would have been really depressing if I would have had to skip the best meal of the year.

none, we don't do extended family gatherings because we live so far from them. So it's just a regular family dinner, but with much more food then usual.

I got ready to put my turkey in the oven and found out it was still frozen!  My boyfriend didn't realize I'd taken it out to defrost so he put it back in the freezer and took it back out early that morning.

I vaguely remember one year where the potatoes somehow exploded in the oven...

I...vaguely recall a thanksgiving where the pie exploded in the oven?  Or something exploded.

My personal most embarrassing Thanksgiving moment was the year I first cooked the entire meal by myself. Everything came out perfectly except...

    The gravy!

Seriously, it was so thick that the kids in attendance were using it like Play-Dough. I was so embarrassed!
