Recipe: Basic Beef Straganoff
After my husband and I got married, I wanted to be able to cook him something easy, something he liked and – most importantly – something I liked.
So, I now have a favorite dish to make: Beef Stroganoff. Here's my recipe:
Beef Stroganoff
1 to 1 1/2 lbs. beef tenderloin or sirloin steak
2 tbls. butter
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1 10 1/2 oz. can beef broth
2 tbls. catsup
1 clove garlic- minced
1 tsp. salt
3 tbls. flour
1 c. sour cream
3 to 4 c. cooked noodles
Cut meat into strips. Melt butter in skillet- add meat and onion powder. Cook until light brown. Reserving 1/3 c. broth, stir in remaining broth, catsup, garlic, and salt. Cover and simmer 15 min.
Blend reserved broth with flour- stir into meat mixture. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 min. Reduce heat. Stir in sour cream. Heat and serve over noodles.
(Note- I leave out mushrooms and use onion powder instead of onions, since I don't like mushrooms and onions.)
Yup, can't get much easier than that!

I use a recipe that's even simpler. It uses leftover grilled steak (OH so delicious!) and cream of mushroom soup with sour cream. http://motheringmunchkins.blogspot.com/2009/08/dinner-on-budget-beef-stroganoff.html Beef Stroganoff is one of my favorite meals EVER!!!
@averyswife@xanga - Funny, I was going to say the exact same thing haha. :) This version is SO simple and is one of the best uses of leftover steak, made with things that most people have in their refrigerator/ pantry already. It's my #1 recommend for leftover steak :)
omg this looks so delicious!! I think I'll try this for dinner tonight =D.
Yum
The picture has left me salivating.
I love beef stroganoff! There is another recipe that is very similar to this that you may enjoy, called chicken dijon. It's very easy to make, and has similar steps to this recipe. If you use the egg yolk noodles, look on the back of the package; thats where I got the recipe! =D
I don't like onions, either -- at least not fresh onions. Something about the texture. But I do like the flavor of onion, so like you, I use onion powder, or instant minced onion.
But I do love mushrooms, and my stroganoff recipe uses lots and lots of mushrooms.
